On Thursday, October 10, WardsAuto hosted their 30th annual Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems Awards ceremony at Huntington Place in Detroit, and Nick Gerstner, Product Manager for BMW’s Compact Class, was there to receive not one, but TWO trophies from WardsAuto Editor-in-Chief, Bob Gritzinger.   This year, the 3-liter TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine that powers the BMW X5 xDrive50e plug-in hybrid SAV was chosen as one of 2024’s 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems. This innovative powertrain was introduced in 2023 and produces more power than its predecessor while improving fuel efficiency and delivering significantly more electric-only range.    That afternoon, BMW was also honored with Wards’ first-ever “Winner of Winners” award. Since the Awards' creation in 1995, BMW has received more 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems awards than any other manufacturer – 41 in total. Wards has honored BMW with awards for engines with three, four, six, and eight cylinders; naturally aspirated, supercharged, and turbocharged; gasoline and diesel. And in the new era of electrification, BMW engineers have been recognized for their plug-in hybrid drivetrains and even fully electric propulsion systems.   Motors are what BMW does best – it’s in our name – and they are the substance of the company. Whether powered by gasoline, electrons, or a combination of both, BMW engineers understand that the vehicle the motor is going into must be a great BMW first, and a great EV or PHEV second. These awards are testaments to their creativity, vision, and hard work – and these awards truly belong to them.    Photo credit: WardsAuto

The BMW Group in the U.S. has pledged a donation of $1 million to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to support in the recovery efforts after the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. Catastrophic winds and rain hit the southeast, including the Carolinas, causing widespread damage and historic flooding. Roads were destroyed by the floods, and landslides left entire communities completely isolated from outside aid for days. The American Red Cross and thousands of volunteers are working tirelessly to care for people impacted by this disaster. “This donation will help the Red Cross give assistance to many in the Carolinas who are in need, including some of our own associates,” said Dr. Robert Engelhorn, president and CEO of BMW Manufacturing. “Thousands of our BMW family lost power, many had their homes damaged by falling trees, and some had their homes swept away by floods. We offer our thanks and support to the Red Cross and many volunteers who are working so hard on the recovery effort.”

Earlier this month, BMW Group US celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month with an impactful discussion with members from our BMW Group Unidos ERG Leadership Team and the CEO & Artistic Director of Ballet Hispánico, Eduardo Vilaro. We were then able to immerse into a cultural learning experience with Ballet Hispánico as they performed at our Woodcliff Lake, NJ Headquarters and via live stream for our US associates. This was an unforgettable experience of learning, community, dance and inspiration. Thank you to Ballet Hispánico for joining us and to our BMW Group Unidos ERG for your leadership in bringing this experience to life. Thank you to all who attended both in-person and virtually for making this event such a success! #HispanicHeritageMonth #BMWGroupUnidos #BMW

Last weekend, BMW returned as the Official Automotive Partner of The Nantucket Project, a gathering of prolific thought leaders reimagining solutions for the complex challenges facing humanity today.

The 12th annual non-profit initiative welcomed hundreds of influential figures and gave them a platform to open dialogues about how to make the world a better place. Through the art of storytelling, immersive live performances, and thought-provoking films, the event fostered empathy and enlightenment by bringing new worldviews into focus.

Also on hand was a full lineup of BMW vehicles for guests to enjoy, including the all-electric BMW i7 flagship sedan and the first-ever plug-in hybrid BMW XM Label Sports Activity Vehicle. In partnering with The Nantucket Project, BMW Group maintains its commitment to a sustainable future and continues to work toward its goals of reducing CO2 emissions throughout its entire value chain by at least 40 percent by 2030 and total climate neutrality by 2050. #BMW #EV #AutomotiveIndustry
