Had to share a pre-race photo because a muddy, shirtless post-race shot might break LinkedIn's terms of service! 😂 Participating in a Spartan Race, with its 20 strength-based obstacles scattered across a few miles, was an exhilarating challenge. Crawling in the mud under barbed wire and throwing spears was just as fun as it sounds! Endurance sports like this, along with my recent foray into triathlons, have taught me that success in the business world is much like overcoming obstacles in a race. It’s about pushing through discomfort, staying focused on the finish line, and relying on both mental and physical resilience to get there. The parallels between the two are striking: just as each obstacle tests your physical strength, every business challenge tests your mental fortitude. In both, preparation, persistence, and a never-give-up attitude are key. But at the heart of it all is health. ❤️ Without a strong, healthy body and mind, it's impossible to perform at your best—whether in a race or in business. Prioritizing health isn’t just about physical fitness; it’s about ensuring you have the energy, clarity, and resilience to tackle whatever comes your way. What’s your favorite way to stay in shape and have fun? I now have a three way tie between basketball 🏀, triathlons 🏊🏼♂️🚴🏼🏃🏼, and obstacle races ⚔️

This book is for anyone who feels like they don’t belong. “Belonging” by Alison Weihe is about finding yourself and growing as a sensitive individual dealing with insecurities. It contrasts Alison Weihe’s challenging experiences and South Africa’s tumultuous path towards democracy. I am still reading this book. However, I wanted to share it because I think it has a timely message about unification, which I think every country needs to pay attention to. Especially the United States. But even though the story is about South Africa, I think this book is essential for US and global readers. #belonging #acceptance #selfdiscovery #bookrecommendations #nonfictionbooks

📚 Three Lessons from Steven Pressfield (a true legend) 📚 I've had the privilege of reading Steven Pressfield's books and interviewing him multiple times on our podcast. Each conversation has left a lasting impact on me. Here are three key takeaways that have influenced both my personal and professional journey: 1. The Power of Persistence 😎 We can’t control the level of talent we’ve been given, nor can we choose the nature of our gift. But what we can control is our self-motivation, discipline, validation, and reinforcement. Steven wrote for 17 years before earning a single penny from his writing and then for another 10 before anything was published. His journey is a testament to the importance of working hard and smart, regardless of the obstacles. 2. Work for Its Own Sake ✍ One of my favorite quotes from The War of Art is, “We must do our work for its own sake, not for fortune or attention or applause.” This resonates deeply with me. The "why" behind our work should be the work itself. Visualizing future recognition won’t help you overcome Resistance; only true passion for the craft will. 3. Humility 😊 Despite being a hero to creators like Tim Ferriss and Joe Rogan, and selling millions of books worldwide, Steven remains one of the most generous and down-to-earth people I've had the pleasure of working with. His humility is a constant reminder that true greatness is often accompanied by genuine kindness. Steven Pressfield is the author of The War of Art, which has sold over a million copies globally and been translated into multiple languages. He’s a master of historical fiction, with Gates of Fire on the required reading list at West Point and recommended by the Joint Chiefs. His other works include A Man at Arms, Turning Pro, Do the Work, and many more. His debut novel, The Legend of Bagger Vance, was over 30 years in the making, and he hasn't stopped writing since. Are you a fan of Pressfield's work? Comment down below! Steven Pressfield #thewarofart #nonfictionbooks #stevenpressfield BookThinkers #bookthinkers

Shoutout to my friend, mentor and inspiration, Evan Carmichael! 🚀 Evan’s book, Built to Serve, was a game-changer for me. It helped me define my purpose with a level of clarity I didn’t previously have. But Evan’s influence didn’t stop there—he’s been a guiding force in my journey. Evan is the person who pushed me to start working with bigger author influencers, launch my podcast, and improve the offer structures at BookThinkers. Perhaps most importantly, he helped me believe in myself and my mission to help others through the power of books. I believe it’s important to show love and gratitude to the people who have had a positive impact on your life from time to time. Making sure they feel acknowledged and rewarded for the work they’ve done in your life is essential. So, I’m using this post as a reminder to reach out to a mentor who has made a big impact on you—let them know how much their guidance has meant. I’m grateful for Evan’s mentorship and the impact he’s had on my life and business. Here’s to continuing the journey of serving others with purpose and passion. #Mentorship #PurposeDriven #BookThinkers #BuiltToServe #Gratitude

I am excited to highlight some of the things I've learned from my friend Laurie Barkman, The Business Transition Sherpa, who has a wealth of knowledge on building and exiting businesses successfully. Two key takeaways from Laurie that have profoundly impacted my perspective: 1. Begin with the End in Mind 🧠 🎯 Laurie emphasizes the importance of starting a business with a clear exit strategy. Without this foresight, you risk significant long-term damage to your business. Studies show that businesses with a defined exit plan are more likely to achieve higher valuations and smoother transitions. This forward-thinking approach not only ensures a successful exit but also drives better decision-making throughout the business lifecycle. 2. Build to Sell 🤑 🧾 Only 20% of businesses that are for sale actually sell. Laurie advises that baking in the right systems, infrastructure, documentation, and reporting as you grow is crucial for making your business attractive to potential buyers. Additionally, businesses that prioritize these elements typically experience more efficient operations, higher profitability, and greater resilience to market changes, making them more appealing in the competitive marketplace. Laurie's expertise in business transition, succession, and value growth has been spotlighted in Newsweek, Forbes, Yahoo! Finance, and more. She’s the former CEO of a $100 million revenue company that was sold to a Fortune 50 and now serves as an adjunct professor of entrepreneurship at Carnegie Mellon University. Check out her best-seller, The Business Transition Handbook, and her podcast for more insights. #businessbook #businessplanning #beginwiththeendinmind #businesstransition
