About us
Boston Area Gleaners is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to supporting an equitable, just, and sustainable local food system. By working closely with farmers, volunteers, and hunger relief agencies, we work to power a supply chain from farms to those in need, reduce food waste, and promote long-term farm sustainability. Since our founding in 2004, we remain the region's only on-farm gleaning organization, and are uniquely poised to bridge a critical gap in our food system—between the more than 30% of crops that go unharvested in farmers' fields and the 1 in 7 Massachusetts residents (including 1 in 5 households with children) that are food-insecure. Throughout the growing season, we organize volunteer trips to local farms to harvest and pack high-quality fruits and vegetables that would otherwise be plowed under—and distribute that food to frontline agencies serving food-insecure families.

Its a clove affair! Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts employees volunteered with us today as part of their 14th annual company-wide day of service. Volunteers got their hands dirty cracking garlic bulbs (separating the individual cloves from the bulb) in preparation for next season's planting at Stonefield Farm. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has been a dedicated supporter of the Gleaners over the years and it's always a pleasure to work with their equally dedicated and hardworking staff. Grateful to the amazing employees from sweetgreen who came out to Stonefield Farm last week to harvest and pack 1,300 pounds (🤯) of napa cabbage for our food access partners. Big week @CommonWealth Kitchen! We have been in production of 100,000 pounds of local farm grown heirloom tomatoes (thanks Boston Area Gleaners, Inc. Boston Food Hub @anniebroad) for k-12 and local hospitals using our upcycled soups, Heirloom Pomodoro Marinara and crushed tomatoes. We even squeezed in Basil Pesto for Stillman's Farm and Clarke's in Carlisle, MA. All while worksbakerycafe.com launched our soil regenerating Field Fritter into a whole line of products from Mezze style Bowls (pictured) and wraps!
