  • Boston Borough Council has formally responded to Government to acknowledge the first phase in the Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) process. The Government wants to replace the current two tier system of local government – that is having a District Council and a County Council – and these will be merged in some fashion into Unitary councils. As part of this first phase, several different options have been proposed by local authorities across Lincolnshire. Today, Boston Borough Council has sent a letter to the Government Minister that acknowledges and supports the Minister’s view in finding a solution that works for residents. Currently, councillors are reflecting upon the various schemes which have been submitted by a number of Lincolnshire Councils. Once the Government’s feedback to these proposals has been received, Boston Borough Council will work with their preferred authorities in Greater Lincolnshire to support the development of a single proposal by November 28, 2025. The letter can be viewed here: https://loom.ly/h2q7A6c

it was such a beautiful sunny day to be back in historic #Boston in Lincolnshire, catching up with an array of place-related friends - Jonathan De Mello, Sonia Cubrilo (MA) FIPM and Ian Ferguson. Since I was last here in January, work has started on the Levelling Up-funded Rosegarth Square scheme, which is designed to improve connectivity and make it easier for those arriving by bus or train to explore the town's attractions, of which there are many. Of course Boston has the usual challenges to address - vacant shops, limited nighttime economy, unused upper floors, ASB, and the like - but the extraordinary heritage, characterful lanes and delightful independents surely provide a foundation for nurturing something really special here 🙏 #highstreet #highstreets #retail Boston Borough Council

  • News 📢: Significant Investment Announced to Improve Safety and Security in Boston. Councillor Anne Dorrian, Leader, Boston Borough Council said: “It is so important to our wellbeing and happiness that we feel safe and secure in the places that we live, work or visit. That is why I am delighted that we have been able to secure this vital funding to improve CCTV coverage and support the great work of our community safety officers across the borough of Boston. “Safety is a key priority we hear from our residents again and again and is an area where we will continue to work with the Town Board, Lincolnshire Police and other partners to continually review and make improvements. Our community safety officers are crucial to this, as they provide a visible, reassuring presence and are able to engage with our residents and businesses, whilst supporting the police at the same time.”

Significant initial investment to help support safety and security in Boston has been announced, based on local people’s feedback and aspirations for the town. Consultation carried out last year by Boston Town Board confirmed safety and security as a priority with people expressing their desire to ‘feel safe’ in the town. This feedback will be reflected in the draft plan for Boston, which will be created with and belong to the town. And, more immediately, Boston Town Board has identified and committed funding for the installation of new and additional CCTV in Boston, and to support the town's Community Support Officers. Our Chair Jo Brigham said: “We did not want to wait for the new funding to get started so we have made the decision to invest in new CCTV and the Community Safety Officers in recognition of the feedback that has been shared with us." • Boston Borough Council is celebrating the very successful first year of achievements through the Boston Town Centre Strategy and Action Plan 2023-27. The four-year strategy was developed following a period of public consultation with residents, visitors, businesses and stakeholders to help direct the council on ways to revitalise and enhance the town centre, support the local economy, instil a sense of pride in heritage and place as well as bring the Borough’s diverse community together. From this clear vision, an action plan based on the themes of Clean and Safe; Open for Business; Culture, Heritage and Events; and Transformation was developed. The action plan has helped bring the council, its partners, community representatives and the voluntary sector even closer together to lead the programme of work set out in the strategy and action plan. Cllr Dale Broughton, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for the Town Centre, said: “This summary report captures the highlights of everything that has been achieved in the first year of this strategy and it is something the community can be very proud of. “Events have brought thousands of residents and visitors to the town centre on a scale which has not been seen here for a long time. We are improving the appearance of the town centre, enhancing our historic market and working with our partners to tackle anti-social behaviour and crime. “And this is just the beginning. Now in year two, we are building on those first successes and working hard to deliver even more improvements and opportunities for the whole community. “Work is continuing on tackling enviro-crime and improving community safety by enhancing CCTV and the continued presence of Community Rangers. “There will be further improvements to street cleaning, work has started on the Rosegarth Square regeneration scheme and we have another opportunity to bring people together with the 900th anniversary of the Boston May Fair and much more. “There is a huge amount of good work happening in Boston and this strategy is making a positive difference for our residents and businesses.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dD8Cq2An
