MIT Technology Review took a deep dive into the commissioning run of Boston Metal’s Molten Oxide Electrolysis (MOE) industrial cell for green #steel production. Groundbreaking research into the capabilities of MOE first began in a lab at #MIT, and it’s a full-circle moment to have this milestone exclusively reported by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology #Technology Review. Take a look to get an overview of the recent breakthrough in our inert anode and what it means for the steel #industry:
Exclusive: Green-steel startup Boston Metal just showed that it has all the ingredients needed to make steel without emitting gobs of greenhouse gases. The company successfully ran its largest reactor yet to make steel, producing over a ton of metal.

At Boston Metal, we believe that supporting and advocating for women is essential to our success. Yesterday, our #team celebrated International Women’s Day with a special event and luncheon. SVP Corporate Fernanda Fenga shared compelling remarks about her professional journey, which began as a lawyer at a time when women were not allowed to wear pants in court, only skirts. CEO Tadeu Carneiro spoke about the powerful women in his life and quoted Desmond Tutu, saying, “It is by standing up for the rights of girls and women that we truly measure up as men.” We also welcomed Kip Hollister, founder & CEO of The Hollister Group, who discussed allyship and the importance of #uplifting others as well as tools we can use to overcome conflict and find solutions in our everyday lives. This #IWD2025 event was organized by our Women’s Network employee resource group, which aims to foster an inclusive environment where women can thrive at Boston Metal. Our MOE #technology is at work for two revolutionary applications: #steel and high-value metals. At our headquarters in Woburn, Massachusetts, MOE is decarbonizing steelmaking by using electricity in an efficient, one-step process that has the potential to cut nearly 10% of the world’s carbon emissions. In Minas Gerais, #Brazil, our subsidiary Boston Metal do Brasil is deploying MOE to recover value from mining waste, offering a sustainable and profitable solution for the metals and #mining industries.
