About us
Founded in 1944, Bouten Construction Company is a relationship-focused contactor that delivers exceptional value to our clients and business partners in the Inland Northwest. The services we provide include preconstruction, construction manager at risk, design/build, general contractor/construction manager (GC/CM), and integrated project delivery (IPD). In recent years, our focus on continuous improvement and incorporating lean principles into all facets of project delivery has significantly enhanced our ability to eliminate waste and execute projects with significantly improved outcomes. Throughout the history of our company, we have continually developed a culture that encourages safety, teamwork, innovation, honesty, trust, and leadership development. We’ve set the bar high and understand that ours is a service business where every relationship matters whether that’s with a client, design team member, trade partner or a co-worker. Today we maintain relationships that extend back to our founding years. We take great pride in upholding the standards that set Bouten apart.

Members of the Bouten project team gathered with Umatilla residents last week to celebrate the grand opening of the community’s new medical office building, a long-awaited improvement to the region's clinical offerings. Umatilla Hospital District board member Jack McWhinnie, an advocate for this important project, was there to celebrate. “It took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes,” he said about the craftsmanship—and the beauty—of the building. “It’s perfect. Just perfect.”

Thank you to our very own Jess Donnerberg for exemplifying Bouten’s commitment to educating the next generation of builders. Professor Donnerberg partnered with Louise Sweeney, Project Manager Lead at Washington State University, to give a lecture on the progressive design-build delivery method to third-year students in WSU’s construction management program. Louise and Jess are working together on the WSU Team Health Education Building project, which is currently underway.

Cynthia Miller (left), Bouten’s quality management specialist, joined Elford, Inc’s Brittany Singer in Phoenix last week for the Advancing Construction Quality Summit in Phoenix. After spending time with professionals from around the US sharing best practices and lessons learned in developing the tools, processes, and standards necessary for a successful and robust quality program, Cynthia returned to Spokane ready to level up our own program—and to uphold Bouten’s commitment to quality without compromise.

John Johnson was fourteen years old when he first went to work for his contractor uncles. He started his own business at eighteen, building custom homes in southern Oregon. But since joining Bouten in 1999 as a journeyman carpenter, his focus has been almost entirely on occupied healthcare facilities. In fact, over the last twenty-five years, John’s worked in pretty much every area of every hospital in the region, from ORs to cath and EP labs to behavioral health suites. It’s the kind of work that presents unique challenges—but it’s also uniquely rewarding. “When you’re done with a project,” he says, “you know that what you’ve done is going to have an impact on someone’s life.”

Boulders and Earthwork and Dozers, Oh My! Progress is well on its way for KOZ on 4th Avenue, a workforce housing project near downtown Spokane, following the groundbreaking August 12. Currently, our crews are in the process of roughing in underground utilities as well as prepping for shoring and footing excavation.
