Valuable 500 is doing important work ensuring disability inclusion is on the agenda of the world's leading companies, and BraunAbility is proud to have been featured as an organizational case study for best inclusion practices as part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month. #ndeam #braunability #nothingaboutuswithoutus
"We know that we’ll only grow as a business by listening to what our customers want, not telling them what they want. […] True inclusion and accessibility come from understanding, awareness, and active engagement with the disability community." As part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, (#NDEAM) we spoke to US-based Valuable 500 company BraunAbility. In our latest piece, Megan Wegner, BraunAbility’s Associate Director of Brand, Communications, and DEI, highlights the company's focus on inclusivity and employability. The company actively involves people with mobility difficulties in product development and within the organisation. BraunAbility advocates for broader accessibility through initiatives like "Save Our Spots," which tackles the misuse of accessible parking spaces, and "The Driving Force," an online community helping shape the company’s initiatives. Their "Drive for Inclusion Report" highlights disparities in how people with disabilities are perceived and accommodated in the workplace. Five-time Paralympian, three-time gold medalist and Team USA Wheelchair Basketball Captain Steve Serio visited our BraunAbility locations in Indiana to share his journey from insecure child to world-class athlete and advocate. "Growing up, I felt insecure. I was living in a world that wasn't built for me." Discovering wheelchair basketball changed Steve's life and set him on the trajectory to become one of the most decorated Paralympians in the sport. Not only is his team the first to ever win three consecutive gold medals, but he was also asked to be the flag bearer for Team USA at the Paris Paralympics, a fitting honor as he announced his retirement from the sport. "BraunAbility is empowering people like me every day to build the life they want. You don't hear it enough, but thank you.” Thank you, Steve Serio, for representing our country as a leader and a legend. You've captured our hearts and our country's pride! #Paralympics #Paralympian #WheelchairBasketball #SteveSerio

Here's an accessibility - and accountability - headline worth celebrating! A NYC judge has ordered the TLC to uphold its 2013 promise to make half its taxi fleet wheelchair accessible. Every new taxi that enters the fleet will be wheelchair accessible until the agreed upon quote is met. https://lnkd.in/gVfxxdZd

Our team members love serving their local disability communities throughout the year, and summer is our busiest give-back season! In July team members volunteered at adaptive water ski clinics, built wheelchair ramps for low-income families and participated in a 5K to raise money for scholarships for college students with muscular dystrophy. Here's a snapshot of just a few faces who are living the BraunAbility purpose. ID 1: A group of BraunAbility team members pose for a photo outdoors. In the background is a marina. Happy to support organizations like The Children's TherAplay Foundation, Inc. and change more lives for families and caregivers!
Thank you to our partners at BraunAbility who have supported our mission in stride since connecting with us last year! Their generosity as our Transportation Sponsor helped us provide accessible shuttles at our Horsepower Carnival, and their volunteering helps to keep our mission going. We greatly appreciate companies like BraunAbility who work to make the world more accessible for people with disabilities!
