More truck parking for Texas and Louisiana: Two major funding grants, made via the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, have been awarded to expand the nation's commercial truck parking capacity, according to an American Trucking Associations (ATA) news release. The grants, totaling more than $33 million, are earmarked for the creation of 170 new truck parking spaces located at key freight corridors in two states. In Texas, a truck parking plaza will be constructed at the intersection of SH 130 and SH 80 that will include 20 short-term and 100 long-term truck parking spaces. The plaza will be fenced in with entry/exit gate controls, 24-hour monitored security, and a fully equipped rest stop facility. In Louisiana, a truck parking facility will be built near the inland port of Columbia where SH 165 intersects with the Ouachita River. It will provide 50 truck parking spaces and improve the port’s ability to service barge operations with multimodal freight options. https://lnkd.in/eziidYs4

𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠/𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 Motor carrier capacity remains resilient in the face of challenging conditions, per the latest Assure Logistics Freight Market Update. Net revocations (voluntarily suspensions of operations reported to FMCSA) have slowed while new carriers entering the market have increased for the second consecutive quarter. This along with a decline in carriers exiting suggests a more stable market with slower carrier attrition is emerging. Current conditions indicate balanced capacity that may remain for the near term, possibly indicating that “the weakest capacity has already left the market,” according to the report. The research group found that the total marginal cost of operating a truck last year was $2.270 per mile. While that notches a new record high, the total rose by just 0.8 percent over 2022. Declining (by 8.8 cents/mile) fuel prices marked the biggest change in the numbers. Most other line items grew moderately in cost, but insurance premiums and truck and trailer payments increased at higher rates. “With fuel removed, the marginal cost of trucking rose by 6.6 percent, from $1.610 per mile in 2022 to $1.716 per mile in 2023,” stated ATRI. 𝐏𝐫𝐨 𝐓𝐢𝐩: 𝐂𝐮𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 Here are three ways to trim back those deadhead miles, per Express Freight Financing. 1. Start by running in the strongest origination markets and avoid going into a market without capacity and rate info. 2. Optimize lanes to run from strong origination markets into strong destination markets. 3. Leverage rates by knowing current load availability in your markets to avoid disadvantageous deals and get top dollar for what you haul. (Source: https://lnkd.in/gQWW8Qc7)

𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐩 Word is watermelon is the mouthwatering crop to be hauling right now. Since roughly mid-May, the summer favorite has been dominating national truckload tonnage, surpassing the position usually notched by potatoes, according to DAT Freight & Analytics. Driving this action is heavier plantings in Northern Florida, Georgia, and Indiana— robust enough that the season could stretch right through September, aligning with the start of the fall crops.
