America has chosen its path forward with President Trump’s election. Congratulations to my US friends and colleagues! 🇺🇦🇺🇸 Naturally, many are asking what this outcome could mean for Ukraine and how it might influence the direction of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. For Ukraine, however, our mission remains clear and unwavering: defending our country and our people is not a choice but our only path to survival. In his initial remarks, President Trump expressed a wish to end wars globally, though details of his approach are still forthcoming. Just six months ago, discussions within the Republican Party included two contrasting approaches toward Ukraine’s support: ✅ 1. Full Military Support – This would entail providing Ukraine with all the resources required, with minimal restrictions on their use, to strengthen our capacity against Russian aggression. 🆘2. Immediate Halt and Negotiation – This approach would mean an end to military and financial support, pushing Ukraine toward immediate negotiations and risking a frozen conflict—an outcome that Russia desires, with complex and far-reaching implications for regional and global security. It’s encouraging that many within the Republican Party understand these risks. The decisions ahead will not only affect U.S. interests but also shape the future of European security. I hope our American colleagues recognize that a stable, democratic Europe aligns with America’s own strategic interests. Campaigns are now behind us; the hard work begins. We wish our American partners wisdom as they shape policies that will impact not only their nation but the balance of stability and democracy worldwide. #Ukraine #USPolitics #ForeignPolicy #GlobalSecurity #UkraineRussiaWar #EuropeanSecurity #USUkraineRelations #Democracy #InternationalRelations #PeaceAndSecurity #Defense #Geopolitics #AmericanElections #USForeignPolicy #Partnerships

    Executive Director at Welcoming America

Yesterday, the American public cast their votes and re-elected former President Trump. Regardless of our reactions—celebration or mourning—one truth remains: our strength in the days ahead will come from leading toward, and not away from, our shared humanity. This election carries immense consequences. It is hard to overstate the impact on people around the globe and those affected by promises to restrict immigration, separate families, and weaken basic civil rights and core democratic norms. We want you to know: it’s okay to feel the weight of this moment and take time before responding, so that our actions can stay grounded in our shared humanity. While we remain clear-eyed about the challenges ahead, we also draw strength from the vision and perseverance of Welcoming leaders around the globe. Together, we are united and resolved in seeing our differences as a source of strength; in seeing our humanity as the foundation for our status and belonging; and in building toward a future where our safety, dignity, and prosperity are rooted in welcoming communities for all. Movements and networks like ours are built for moments like these—moments that call for courageous, compassionate, and aligned action from local leaders in cities and towns. These leaders will be the first line of action and last line of defense for protecting the safety and dignity of all residents.  The north star of America’s moral compass is not hard to find in these leaders—and in the abundant, courageous spirit of millions of immigrant Americans. Our work ahead will be to champion, support, and multiply their efforts. We can’t do it without you. In times like these, our work can take many forms, as our steady and unwavering community gathers itself around a belief in a better future. Hope is powerful. Together, I know we will meet this moment, taking one step at a time, side by side, with our members, supporters, and the global movement of Welcomers to build a nation of neighbors. It’s a future where our humanity is at the center and our belonging is at the forefront. Please reach out if you need support, want to connect, or share how we can best assist you and your community. We are here for you—and we are here for each other.

    • Together in belonging. Grounded in our shared humanity, we are committed to fostering belonging and building stronger communities.
  • Now, more than ever, we must unite to amplify our voices, support those in need, and refuse the narrative of hate and lies.

🇺🇸❓On Trump's Win As a German-American historian who has been working in the US education space for years, I must confess that this election result did not really come as a surprise. Trump's win is "merely" a very visible and unintended outcome of how this country approached education reform in the past 20 years. While the US educational-industrial complex pursued a "race-to-the-top", it 🔬 did not advance opportunity for all, because it ignored the #biologyoflearning and downplayed the importance of ensuring that all young people grow up feeling seen and loved, nurtured and connected as learners and creators. As a result, economic opportunity and socio-economic mobility has decreased, not increased. ✊ did not advance the idea of a "defensible democracy" that must be protected from authoritarianism, because it erased an understanding of global history and of the fragile principles of democracy from its curriculum. As a result, no one can hear the signs of danger. 🌎 did not prepare learners as decision-makers and bridgers with a global lens, for it downplayed the humanities--the very subjects that help us imagine new futures and connect with a purpose beyond ourselves as individual consumers. As a result, a majority voted driven by a set of rather individualistic, myopic values. 🥾It did not prepare us for demographic change in a world on the move, and help us see migration as a through line of human history. As a result, people voted in fear of the change taking place. The good news: the people who are working on these root causes are working together. We are - Advancing the biology of learning across all systems with the #powerofplay and #projects - Rebooting engagement with history to ensure all young people are connected to the stories that help them understand the true promise of democracy - Advancing pathways in the humanities and a deep connection with our shared human story and future - #reimagining migration as our shared story Ours is a broad and big alliance. I won't call everyone out here, but you all know who you are. We will keep trying to make America a hub of hope for humanity for the next generation. The picture below was taken at a recent convening at which we collaborated towards this future. Tech is not the answer here, people. It is love, and art, and humanity, and history and relationships and community--and an unfailing belief that we can make change that will move us forward. As I told my kids: the great thing about being an historian is that you know that there always, always is the chance to move towards light--if only we move there together. Onward. #historymatters #humanitycenteredlearning #learningforthriving History Co:Lab iThrive Games
