⚾ Play ball! Flashback to cooler temperatures in spring time when our Tritons from Rise Kohyang High School enjoyed some friendly baseball competition. At Bright Star, we believe in holistic education for our scholars—one that places value in both academic success and growth outside the classroom. Sports is an excellent vehicle to teach our students about the power of teamwork, resiliency under pressure, and just having fun with friends. At Bright Star Schools, we invest in the professional development of our educators year round. Mrs. Ryan, a TK teacher at Rise Kohyang Elementary School, leads weekly TK-2 grade spam meetings to develop synergies and collaboration across grade levels. During their last meeting, they discussed iReady testing, challenges that have arisen inside and outside the classroom, and had plenty of opportunities for answering any other questions. These meetings foster a stronger sense of community among the teachers at Rise Kohyang Elementary so they can support each other, which ultimately benefits our scholars. 📣 Alumni Spotlight: Vielka M., Stella High Charter Academy, Class of 2021! Vielka's pursuit of a career in Human Resources is a deeply personal one, inspired by her experience of addiction in her family and wanting to help those in need. She recently graduated with her associate's degree from West Los Angeles College in Addiction Studies while simultaneously working as an addiction counselor at a medicine-based rehab center. She is now majoring in Sociology at Cal State Fullerton and is thriving as a first-generation college student. “If you are interested in transferring to a four-year college/university, just go for it! Meet all the deadlines, meet with your counselor for extra support, apply when the applications open, and do your FAFSA!" she shared. "I recommend doing research on your major and what schools would benefit...you the most now!” Vielka has overcome challenges and is on the path to achieve all her dreams.
