⚾ Play ball! Flashback to cooler temperatures in spring time when our Tritons from Rise Kohyang High School enjoyed some friendly baseball competition. At Bright Star, we believe in holistic education for our scholars—one that places value in both academic success and growth outside the classroom. Sports is an excellent vehicle to teach our students about the power of teamwork, resiliency under pressure, and just having fun with friends. No matter who wins or loses, we are proud of our Tritons for giving it their all! 🏅 #BrightStarStrong #SportsEducation

In the September 2024 Issue of Budo International we would like to share with you the highlights of the World Hwa Rang Do Annual Event an 8 Day full immersion into the Hwarang Way of Life - 2 day championships, seminars, leadership conference, black sash promotional exam, black sash initiation ceremony, award banquet and a family reunion! P1 “Reflecting on this event, it becomes evident that during times of peace and comfort, we are seldom tested by challenges that question our commitment to our Nine Doctrines and our way of life. However, throughout this rigorous nine-days, we encountered numerous moments of weakness that tested our “Warrior (Hwarang) Ethos,” tempting us with the evils of inhumanity, injustice, discourtesy, ignorance, mistrust, malevolence, vice, betrayal, and cowardice, opposing counterforces of our nine virtues. Each challenge and competition acted as a mirror, revealing how easily one can stray from the path of virtue when under pressure and facing seemingly insurmountable dilemmas. The intense training and competition forced us to confront our own potential for inhumanity and injustice. We had to balance the aggressive nature of martial arts with the compassion and fairness that are central to the Hwarang spirit. Courtesy was especially tested in the heat of competition, where the stress of losses or injuries could easily provoke rudeness, anger, and disrespect. Wisdom was essential in applying our skills judiciously, avoiding the pitfalls of ignorance and rash decisions.” Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/esg997dv #hwarang #hwarangdo #taesoodo #martialarts #championship #tournament #seminar #training #warrior #korean #motivation #inspiration #gotoogi #grappling #yongtoogi #fighting #transformation #champions #joobanglee #taejoonlee #화랑 #화랑도 #태수도 #이주방 #이태준 #고투기 #용투기

P1 “The week culminated in the Hwa Rang Do Black Sash Promotional Examination and Ceremony. The candidates faced an arduous journey, beginning with a grueling two-hour written exam followed by a five-hour physical trial. The physical test included oral questioning, compulsory forms and movements—starting with short forms and progressing consecutively through nine extensive forms—along with selected examples from a vast array of self-defense techniques. They then moved on to multiple board breaks with kicks and the power-breaking of concrete slabs. And that was just the warm-up. The examination reached its peak with an intense two hours of continuous fighting. The candidates first engaged in Yongtoogi (stand-up striking, takedowns, quick submissions), followed by Gotoogi (submission grappling), Bongtoogi (stick fighting with baton and long staff), and finally, Gumtoogi (sword fighting with short and long bamboo swords). All of this took place under the relentless heat of the Tuscan summer, with temperatures soaring above 30°C, offering no respite. Throughout this grueling ordeal, the candidates were observed under the strict and discerning eyes of Dojoonim, Kuksanim, and two dozen other Hwa Rang Do Black Sashes of higher Dan ranks.” Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/esg997dv #hwarang #hwarangdo #taeaoodo #martialarts #championship #tournament #seminar #training #korean #motivation #inspiration #transformation #joobanglee #taejoonlee #yongtoogi #화랑 #화랑도 #태수도 #이주방 #이태준 #용투기

High School Student | Passionate About Data Science/Analytics | Familiar with Python & SQL | Competitive Debater & Joins Robotic Competitions
I learned a lot about debating and adapting. Last month, I watched the debate semi-finals and finals competition held at SMK Damansara Utama. It felt so exhilarating watching their different debating styles, and I took detailed notes so I can incorporate the tactics and strategies they used into my own debates! Even during my previous debate sessions, I willingly took the time and risk to change my strategy between each round all while adapting to the significant shifts of my actions I put myself through. I learned that I always need to strive for improvement, even if that change warrants failure in the end. After all, growth requires stepping out of your comfort zone. Instead of being afraid of change and failure, one needs to be afraid of never being able to improve oneself. To be able to be brave and try different things is like navigating an entirely new environment, and that's precisely why adaptability is essential. Adapting is a skill, and I'm planning to master it—not just in competitive debating, but in navigating the ever-changing landscape of life. Looking forward to next year's debate competition! (☆▽☆)

P1 “Our lives, and the lives of those we care about, are seldom in immediate danger, which grants us numerous freedoms and privileges that we often take for granted. We have access to resources that far exceed basic survival needs, the freedom to choose and speak openly, and the luxury of time for rest and relaxation, often assuming these blessings will last indefinitely. Most of us rarely encounter situations that truly challenge our values and convictions. The WHRDA Annual Events offer a profoundly enlightening experience, equipping us for the uncertainties of the future, and this year was no exception. This intense nine-days presented each participant with unique challenges, exposing our weaknesses and testing our commitment to the KYO HOON. Through the seminars and championships, we were pushed to our limits, uncovering not only our strengths but, more importantly, the areas where we need to grow, evolve, and transform.” Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/esg997dv #hwarang #hwarangdo #taesoodo #martialarts #championship #tournament #seminar #training #warrior #korean #motivation #inspiration #transformation #champions #joobanglee #taejoonlee #화랑 #화랑도 #태수도 #이주방 #이태준 #검투기 #봉투기

Bachelor in International business UniMAP | Johor Apprentice 2024 | Finalist Johor Student Icon 2023 (Entrepreneurs) | UniMAP Student Icon 2022 (Academic)
On June 12, 2023, as a representative of the Student Representative Council, I had the opportunity to meet with the residents of Kolej Kediaman Simpang 4 alongside the College Residential Council. The meeting was convened to address the pressing issue of limited parking spaces, compounded by the closure of several parking areas. During our discussion, we collaboratively generated several ideas to alleviate the parking challenges: I) Opening alternative parking areas to increase available spaces. II) Implementing a parking sticker system with priority given to students who live further away. III) Introducing a rotational parking system to ensure fair access to parking spaces. The purpose of this meeting was not only to find practical solutions but also to demonstrate the transparency of student leadership. By directly engaging with the residents, we aimed to dispel the stigma that only those in leadership positions are aware of the issues at UniMAP. Through open discussions, we were able to explain why certain decisions are made and work together to find better solutions for the benefit of everyone involved. This experience reinforced the importance of transparent leadership and the need for continuous dialogue between student leaders and the broader student community. It’s through such interactions that we can build a more inclusive and responsive campus environment.

P1 “Trust was a fundamental pillar of the event, woven into every interaction with our masters, instructors, teammates, and even our competitors. The experience demanded that we reveal our vulnerabilities, which, in turn, illuminated the profound importance of goodness and benevolence. In this crucible of challenge, we were constantly reminded to temper any impulses toward malevolence or intentional harm with compassion and integrity. Virtue and vice were omnipresent, engaging in a relentless battle within our minds. We found ourselves grappling with our own ego, pride, and vanity, often tempted by the allure of victory at any cost and the fear of humiliation. This internal struggle highlighted the delicate balance between personal ambition and ethical conduct. Each moment of competition and cooperation underscored the necessity of aligning our actions with the noble ideals of the Hwarang spirit, fostering a deeper understanding of true honor and self-restraint amidst the pressures of the event.” Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/esg997dv #hwarang #hwarangdo #taesoodo #martialarts #championship #tournament #seminar #training #warrior #korean #motivation #inspiration #gotoogi #grappling #yongtoogi #fighting #transformation #champions #joobanglee #taejoonlee #화랑 #화랑도 #태수도 #이주방 #이태준 #고투기 #용투기
