About us

At Bright Hope Capital, we're more than just an investment firm – we're a catalyst for change. In alignment with the core principles of venture capital, our goal is to strategically acquire scalable Black and Hispanic-owned businesses. Through this targeted approach, we foster upward economic mobility and catalyze positive transformations within communities, driving sustainable growth and prosperity. Based in the heart of Charlotte, North Carolina, Bright Hope Capital was co-founded by a trio of visionaries: Hugh McColl, Former Bank of America CEO; Malcomb Coley, Ernst & Young's Charlotte managing partner; and Lloyd Yates, President and Chief Executive Officer of NiSource Inc. Born out of their collective vision for a future where the barriers that hinder Black and Hispanic entrepreneurs from accessing capital are dismantled, Bright Hope Capital was formed in 2020. We offer visionary executive leadership and guidance to nurture the growth and potential of minority-owned businesses. Our subsidiaries include R.J. Leeper Construction (2023's Largest Black-owned company in Charlotte) and BigPrime Hauling.
