Progression is everything. Sometimes it takes a step back before you push forward and sometimes through grit and determination it comes earlier than anticipated. The GB senior men stepped two years ahead of time to win this incredible International Handball Federation competition. Ricardo Vasconcelos head coach says “They fought against all odds and, once again, evidence the potential that handball has in GB. This success isn’t just about winning a title - its building a legacy. The victory underlines the work being done across handball in the UL, both in performance pathways and grassroots development, ensuring a strong foundation for the future.” https://lnkd.in/eW3H48mh UK Sport Sport England

A positive recent training camp for the women’s U19’s builds on their preparation for the summers international competitions
One year on from our last camp in Gaia, I am so pleased with the progress we have made at under 19s level for British Handball Association. As always I must praise and thank those club coaches working with the players on a weekly basis as we continue to raise the level and achieve potential. The objective of last week's camp was to develop our sense of belonging, an idea I've become fascinated by since reading the book 'Belonging' by Owen Eastwood. On International Women's Day I asked each player (and staff) to share their handball story - why they do it, what they get from it, and where they see the future being. After some laughs, some tears (mainly from me!) and lots of emotion, it was amazing to see the closeness that this brought us all. I shared the story of Hulda, who was a player both me and my Assistant Coach Oliver Sutcliffe worked with. Hulda died suddenly a few years ago, and she is the reason why I now ask players to play every game as if it is their last, just like Hulda did. They never understood why I said that before Saturday, and now they do - I am so glad they do. These players are amazing female role models to their friends and family, and now I think they realise that. I am so proud of them, and will continue to be.

Incredible job that you and the team did: athletes and staff together united in their journey.

Some moments with more inspiration, some with less, but always with the right attitude. The boys did it! As I've told them, this was a week that epitomises all that they are as athletes and, mostly, as humans. Genuinely good people, highly skilled and dedicated, with clear, shared, and strong values. I am very lucky! We will enjoy, celebrate, and "ride the wave", remembering that we are here because we understand where we came from, that we must always work to improve and develop! Because we understand that progress isn't linear, and that the next step started today. A special word to Wendel, still U18, that had to be brought to the squad "last minute" due to several injuries in his specific position. Incredible ethic and enormous potential. May this be an example to all young athletes in the pathway! Thank you for all the kind words of encouragement and support! British Handball Association #WeGo #GBon3
