  • Brunswick County Schools Make Notable Academic Strides in 2023-2024 NCDPI Accountability Data Shows BCS Continues to Rank Among NC’s Best BRUNSWICK COUNTY (September 13, 2024) - Brunswick County Schools students demonstrated impressive academic progress on state assessments for the 2023-2024 school year, according to accountability data released by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction on September 4, 2024. Highlights of the 2023-2024 accountability data for Brunswick County Schools included the following: • 68.42% of schools received a school performance grade of C or better • Three BCS schools moved up a full school letter grade (Town Creek Middle School, Shallotte Middle School, and Southport Elementary School) (The school performance grade is made up of the school’s 80% achievement score and 20% growth score.) • 42.11% of schools Met or Exceeded Growth (8 schools) • 21.05% of schools Exceeded Growth (4 schools) (Academic growth is an indication of the progress that students in the school made over the previous year.) • BCS four-year graduation rate is 85.2% compared to 83% last year (This is based on the percentage of students who graduate with their cohort in four years or less.) In 2024, Brunswick County Schools ranked in the top third of the state specific to the percentage of students scoring at grade level proficiency in the following categories (out of 115 school districts): • Third-grade Reading • Fifth-grade Reading • Third-grade Math • Fourth-grade Math • Fifth-grade Math • Third-grade – Eighth-grade Math Composite • Math 3 (Top 10 in NC) • Biology (Top 10 in NC) Out of 233 schools in the southeast NC region, four BCS schools ranked in the top third of all schools based on academic growth: • Brunswick County Early College High School (7th) • Union Elementary School (24th) • Waccamaw School (42nd) • Southport Elementary School (49th) Two BCS schools also ranked in the top half of the 233 schools in the southeast NC region based on academic growth: • Town Creek Elementary School (93rd) • Lincoln Elementary School (99th)

  • Brunswick County Schools is seeking an attorney or firm to serve in the capacity of School Board Attorney. The district is seeking an attorney or firm well versed in education law, particularly federal and state statutory and case law governing public education, civil service, human resources, and general municipal matters in North Carolina.
