THE FUTURE OF ORTHOPAEDICS
Meet Max, a patient care assistant with us! Max is working for us this summer with a very specific goal in mind: He hopes to one day be an orthopaedic surgeon, and that dream was first realized eight years ago when Max was treated by our very own Dr. Andrew Stoeckl.
Max explains he met Dr. Stoeckl after hurting his knee in soccer. He went to Excelsior Orthopaedics to have his pain checked out, and Dr. Stoeckl diagnosed Max with Osgood-Schlatter disease – pain that can develop on the front of adolescents’ knees when going through a rapid growth spurt.
It was then that Max learned about Dr. Stoeckl’s education background and his work with professional sports teams. This stuck with Max, who always wanted to play sports professionally, but knew that if he couldn’t, he would like to help professional athletes, and from a young age, Max had sports medicine in mind.
Max went to Canisius High School, and today, he is a rising sophomore at Boston College – just like Dr. Stoeckl! He is studying biology on a pre-med track.
Dr. Stoeckl got to see Max in action when Max had the opportunity to scrub in for surgery this summer, and Dr. Stoeckl says of their day together eight years later that he was an excellent observer, very engaged, and he can’t wait to see what the future holds for Max!
We’re rooting for you, Max, and are proud to be a part of your journey toward an orthopaedics career!👏🎓
