  • THE FUTURE OF ORTHOPAEDICS Meet Max, a patient care assistant with us! Max is working for us this summer with a very specific goal in mind: He hopes to one day be an orthopaedic surgeon, and that dream was first realized eight years ago when Max was treated by our very own Dr. Andrew Stoeckl. Max explains he met Dr. Stoeckl after hurting his knee in soccer. He went to Excelsior Orthopaedics to have his pain checked out, and Dr. Stoeckl diagnosed Max with Osgood-Schlatter disease – pain that can develop on the front of adolescents’ knees when going through a rapid growth spurt. It was then that Max learned about Dr. Stoeckl’s education background and his work with professional sports teams. This stuck with Max, who always wanted to play sports professionally, but knew that if he couldn’t, he would like to help professional athletes, and from a young age, Max had sports medicine in mind. Max went to Canisius High School, and today, he is a rising sophomore at Boston College – just like Dr. Stoeckl! He is studying biology on a pre-med track. Dr. Stoeckl got to see Max in action when Max had the opportunity to scrub in for surgery this summer, and Dr. Stoeckl says of their day together eight years later that he was an excellent observer, very engaged, and he can’t wait to see what the future holds for Max! We’re rooting for you, Max, and are proud to be a part of your journey toward an orthopaedics career!👏🎓

This week marked another important occasion for ambulatory surgery center #advocacy! Buffalo Surgery Center was proud to host Congressman Tim Kennedy's senior advisor, Rob Davidson, for a tour of our facilities. Leaders Kathleen Regan, MHA, BSN, RN, CASC, Kristen Jackson, BSN, RN, CAIP, and Melissa Mucklow shared important facts about how BSC and ASCs in general serve the community and how Rep. Kennedy can support upcoming healthcare legislation at the federal level that will better serve ASCs and patients alike. We thank Rob for his time, for asking thoughtful questions, and for remembering BSC when Rep. Kennedy's team is at work in Washington!

The J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge was a success and a wonderful evening of company camaraderie with Buffalo Surgery Center! Thank you to everyone who participated and attended our tent party. And a very special thanks to our administrative team, who spent all day setting up, our athletic trainers who provided the medical coverage for the race, and the ATC/PT duo of Jim and Jill who led the race's official warm-up!

Today, we were privileged to spend time with New York State Senator Sean M. Ryan, whose district (61st) includes Amherst, where we at Buffalo Surgery Center are located. We provided State Senator Ryan and his deputy Chief of Staff a tour of our orthopaedic and gastrointestinal/colorectal buildings, and we implored upon the senator the importance of ambulatory surgery centers, like BSC, in providing quality, safe, and efficient care for quality-of-life surgeries and life-saving cancer screenings. Advocacy at both the state and national levels help shine a light on ambulatory surgery centers, how they help the fabric of health care, and promote legislation that benefits patients and ASCs alike! Thank you for your time, Senator Ryan! David Uba Jeffrey Visco Kathleen Regan, RN, BSN, MHA Kristen Jackson, BSN, RN, CAIP John Callahan MD, FAAOS

This was my second time participating in a lobby day this year and I'm learning more and more each time I do. It is so important that we educate our lawmakers on who ASCs are and what we can do to better the healthcare system for ALL!
