When the world came to a standstill due to a massive IT issue, I saw it as a unique opportunity to reconnect with myself and my surroundings. Instead of succumbing to frustration, I embarked on a 12-hour walk—something I had never done before. Originally, I was supposed to fly to Japan, but when flights were cancelled, I chose a different journey. Starting just over the Golden Gate Bridge in Sausalito, I walked to Tiburon and explored the town, covering 32 miles. No electronics, just nature and my thoughts. ☀️🏔️🚶♂️ The experience was transformative. Without distractions, I noticed the beauty in small things—the light on the water, rustling leaves, quiet conversations. Each step felt purposeful, reminding me of what we often miss in our daily routines. 🌲 By the end, with sore and tired legs, I felt accomplished and at peace. This taught me about adaptability and making the most of any situation. 💡 In business, as on that walk, disruptions can be growth opportunities. Stepping away from digital noise helped me think clearly, highlighting the value of mindfulness. Why do we only intentionally design one space in our lives when all three are vital for fulfillment? ❓ We spend most of our lives in "First Spaces" – our homes, defined by comfort and autonomy. "Second Spaces" are our workplaces, where we exhibit technical skills and spend significant energy. "Third Spaces" allow us to blend these experiences, being creative, social, and exploratory. 💡 Ray Oldenburg coined these terms to describe parks, bars, trails, coffee shops, and more. These "Third Spaces" are often undervalued, yet they are essential. As an entrepreneur, I rely on them to take calls, craft ideas, and write plans. They energize me and make me feel authentic. 🌲 🏔 We need to design our time to tap into "Third Spaces" mentally and emotionally. Simply one of the best events I've been too in any field (no pun intended...). Coaching Outdoors Podcast LIVE was a gathering of 100 plus like-minded individuals passionate about exploring outdoor coaching, techniques and practices. What an epic day Freshwalkers……. Wonderful to back on Moel Famau last Friday where we were blessed with glorious weather of clear blue skies and sunshine which further enhanced the breathtaking 360 views from the top. The heat added to the challenge of the 16km trek and the pitstop at The Druid Inn was a welcome sight for all. 🥵☀️🍻 The effort and sense of achievement was worthy of the achy limbs the next day. 😊 Freshwalks are a wonderful day of meeting and net-walking with like minded professionals and deveoping long lasting business relationships. "Creating an intentional life is one where you don't need to escape from" This week, I was thrilled to host YPO Palm Beach for the BusinessOutside "Discover Your Path Forward" Presidents Retreat. 🏔 Through a self assessment of our Personal Values and discovery of our Zones of Genius, we learned how to rise above societal and outdated corporate norms that hinder our growth. We learned the benefits of a natural setting, why feeling personally fulfilled matters in our life, and practical methods for living an authentic, intentional life. ⚡ We paired pattern-breaking revelations from Erin Pheil, lessons in the true meaning of excellence from Bob Africa, and activities directing personal rediscovery, and intentional outdoor experiences to collectively create a truly impactful three days. I hold much gratitude for the authentic, enthusiastic engagement from these wonderful members of YPO, and am excited to watch them carry these learnings forward throughout their personal and professional lives.
