  • As we enter the final week of March, I want to take a moment to celebrate Women’s History Month to honor the contributions and achievements of women throughout history and recognize those who continue to break barriers today. This year’s theme, as set by the National Women’s History Alliance, is “Moving Forward Together! Women educating and inspiring generations.” This year’s celebration comes at a critical moment in our nation’s history that challenges us to rise up, and recommit to our core values that are rooted in treating people with respect and dignity, owing largely to our collective belief that diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging serves to strengthen our workforce. Together, our vast, intersectional identities are what enable us to deliver on our consumer protection mission here at CDI. Today, women make up 47% of California’s workforce. I have always believed that leadership, whether in government or business, should reflect those who they serve, and all you need to do is look at our Department’s leadership where half of our executive team are strong, brilliant, accomplished women leading the charge as we work to protect California consumers. We also continue to make headways with our Insurance Diversity Program as part of CDI’s Office of Insurance Diversity & Innovation that recently hosted the California Supplier Diversity Symposium featuring a powerhouse keynote panel of women leaders across our state’s Executive branch. And for the first time since the inception of our Department’s California Insurance Diversity Survey, women comprise more than 25 percent of more than 1,600 board directors who represent 390 insurance companies that reported. I hope you all join me to recognize and thank the important women leaders in your lives, who have had an impact on you and your success, not just this March, but beyond. And may we continue to push for more representation of women at all levels of society because when we uplift women, we also enable greater progress for all of our communities across California.   -Commissioner Ricardo Lara
