A thought provoking read! 🤔
While most of the articles that I'm currently reading are focused on the risks associated with AI (and there are many), this article by Todd Thomas of WoodChuck.ai focuses on the ability of AI to enhance sustainability efforts and in some cases, increase circularity. According to this article, 40% of landfills are wood waste from construction and manufacturing sites by AI and connected technologies can revolutionize waste management in these areas. Here are three ways it's done: 1. AI can automate the sorting of materials like wood on construction sites, while increasing recycling and repurposing efficiency through proper sorting, contamination reduction, and reduction of manual labor costs. 2. AI systems can also provide real-time monitoring of waste collection that optimizes dumpster management to prevent cost overages. 3. AI can generate detailed reports on waste diversion, energy production, and CO2 emissions avoided, helping companies meet their sustainability goals and regulatory requirements. https://lnkd.in/gZ-KrcFu

And.....we're back! We had a busy summer and are excited to get back to our Building Baselines interview series, featuring Alicia Noriega, CEM formerly of Edo and now with Port Authority of NY & NJ (The). Here are our three key take-aways from our chat with Alicia: 1. Cleaner Grid with Smart Buildings: Alicia focuses on using grid-interactive buildings to reduce peak demand and support renewable energy. 2. Sustainability and Equity: She believes in making the energy transition sustainable and equitable by involving building owners and communities. 3. Quick Adaptation: Alicia notes the importance of agility in climate tech, with startups like Edo able to scale faster than government agencies. Calico wants to thank Alicia for taking the time to chat with us to share her thoughts and Ideas. The #BuildingBaselines series is founded in the spirit of collaboration across disciplines as we navigate emergent technologies to fight climate change and enable more energy efficiency. We hope you'll join us as we publish this next series of interviews. Stay tuned! 🏢 ⚡ https://lnkd.in/gKd7d37m
