In honor of #BlackBreastfeedingWeek, CBHN is spreading awareness about vital programs for new mothers, including California's Black Infant Health (BIH) program. BIH offers individual and group support to Black mothers and birthing people, addressing the unique challenges they face due to anti-Black racism and social stressors. By providing a culturally affirming and supportive environment, BIH empowers mothers to improve health outcomes for themselves and future generations. https://lnkd.in/gk4ZfCRv

"Black infants are 21% less likely to be breastfed at birth and 60% less likely to be breastfed exclusively at 3 months in contrast to white infants. This is a systems problem, not a parent problem." Breastfeed Durham This #BlackBreastfeedingWeek, let's support and empower Black mothers to give their babies the healthiest start in life. #Breastfeeding can help reduce the risk of #SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), #asthma, and #obesity—conditions that disproportionately affect Black children. Increasing breastfeeding rates among Black mothers can improve health outcomes for both mothers and babies, helping to close the racial health gap.
