The Civil Rights Department (formerly Department of Fair Employment and Housing) is the state agency charged with enforcing California’s civil rights laws. The mission of CRD is to protect the people of California from unlawful discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations and from hate violence and human trafficking.

The settlement addresses sex-based discrimination, including alleged equal pay violations, for women who worked at Activision between 2015 and 2020. At the Civil Rights Department, we fight to defend your civil rights each and every day. From lawsuits to protect individual renters to litigation to combat allegations of widespread discrimination in the workplace, we’re here to support all our state’s residents. If you’re covered under the settlement, you should receive notice by the end of October. Every year, we receive thousands of complaints about violations of people’s civil rights — and we know many more never report. If you’ve faced discrimination in housing, report it!     #ICYMI: Housing discrimination was one of many topics added to the 2023 California Health Interview Survey (CHIS). 4.6% of California adults said they experienced housing discrimination in the last two years. Among them, 9.4% of Black or African American adults experienced housing discrimination, more than 4x higher than white adults (2.3%). To access 2023 CHIS data, visit ask.chis.ucla.edu
