Today, Ana Maria Johnson and I joined team members from our division’s Network Performance and Public Safety section to tour Verizon’s Rocklin switching and data centers. The vehicle behind us is one of Verizon’s Snow Cats, and to the left is a Cell on Light Truck, or “COLT.” Thank you to Jesús Román and Rudy Reyes and Rex Knowles and Melissa Slawson for arranging the event and to Verizon’s facilities and first responder teams for the briefings and tour.

The California Public Utilities Commission has opened the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (#BEAD) Subgrantee Prequalification period, which will run from March 25, 2025 through April 24, 2025. Only entities that fully complete and submit their prequalification materials may have their project grant applications considered under the program. "You don't need to deselect yourself from opportunities." Shao Pat Tsen, CPUC Deputy Executive Director, shared her journey from private practice to public sector leadership at the Association of Women in Water, Energy, and Environment event. As an immigrant, she prioritized stability, but mentorship and self-reflection helped her take bold steps--including becoming an Assistant Chief Administrative Law Judge at the CPUC. Her best career advice? "Women are expected to have everything, but what we don't realize is we can have everything, just not at the same time. As you are juggling all the balls in the air, recognize which are rubber balls and which are the glass balls. Sometimes it's okay to drop the rubber balls." A great reminder for anyone navigating career growth and work-life balance. #WomenHistoryMonth #Leadership #Mentorship
