138 attacks on the Endangered Species Act in one Congress alone! The ESA, our most powerful tool against extinction, is under unprecedented assault. In the 118th Congress, anti-wildlife actions tripled from previous years, with protections for gray wolves, endangered whales, and other species at risk. Many of these attacks are hidden in spending bills as “poison-pill” riders. The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund just released a new report cataloging these attacks. Over 50 companies are joining the growing chorus in calling for the designation of Sáttítla National Monument. As a part of #MobilizingforMonuments, we are speaking up to protect the outdoors. We are joining the Pit River Tribe, local community members, and elected officials in calling on President Biden to designate the Sáttítla National Monument in Northern California. Sáttítla would protect over 200,000 acres of public lands, critical water resources, and a place where families come to camp, hike, bike, and seek solitude. As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the California Desert Protection Act and Coachella Valley pride month, the LGBTQ+ community in the desert is calling on President Biden to establish the Chuckwalla National Monument! The outdoors is for everyone, and we all deserve to be “out”-side. Nature is vital for mental health and self-discovery, and Chuckwalla would expand outdoor access for the Eastern Coachella Valley, creating more opportunities for recreation and connection.
