The American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association have shown their support for rescheduling cannabis. Plus, public feedback is overwhelmingly in favor of this change. Will the DEA align with the medical community, federal agencies, and public opinion to officially reschedule cannabis? 💬✨ "More than 40,000 comments were submitted by various agencies, organizations, academics, and concerned citizens. An overwhelming 91% of comments were submitted in favor of the rescheduling proposal or making it legal under federal law, according to an analysis of the data conducted by Headset. The analysis found that among those supporting a change 56% advocated for complete descheduling of cannabis and 35% supported rescheduling to a less restrictive category." #cannabislegalization #cannabiscommunity #cannabisnews

A report by the Minority Cannabis Business Association claims the cannabis industry could create over 50,000 jobs by 2030 if the federal government reschedules cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III. This change would ease restrictions and lift tax burdens, like the Section 280E tax code that prohibits deductions for cannabis companies. “Our comprehensive survey and detailed economic analysis projects that rescheduling and the resulting [tax] reform would result in the creation of 55,500 jobs by 2030, generating as much as $2.7 billion in wages and $5.6 billion in new economic activity. We therefore encourage DEA to act with deliberate speed in publishing a final rule moving marijuana to schedule III.” — Statement signed by Johnson and McClary Easley, in the report #cannabisindustry #jobgrowth #cannabisnews

Despite facing numerous challenges and declining legal market sales, California remains the state to beat in the cannabis industry! The Golden State racked up over $2 billion in legal cannabis sales in the first half of 2024. Despite strong competition from the illicit market and high state/local taxes, California still averages about $347 million in sales per month. Michigan is close behind, with $1.6 billion in sales during the same period. Since beginning legal adult-use cannabis sales in 2019, Michigan has quickly become a leader, averaging $270 million in monthly sales. #cannabisindustry #california #cannabisnews

Leaders from Nevada visited the first-ever cannabis lounge at the California State Fair to explore solutions for launching and regulating pop-up lounges in the Silver State. In 2023, lawmakers proposed mobile cannabis lounges, but the bill didn't pass. Clark County Chair Tick Segerblom, Nevada House Speaker Steve Yeager, State Sen. Dallas Harris, and Clark County business license officials attended the Sacramento exhibit and lounge. “We have a history of this. When we first started out in 2013 [to legalize dispensaries], we went to Phoenix to see how they did it down there. We came back to Carson City, and based upon that knowledge, that’s how we got the bill passed. The thought was, let’s see how it works. And if it seems simple enough, they can take it to Carson City and do it again,” Segerblom said. Plans are in motion to propose another bill for the 2025 legislative session, says Segerblom. #cannabisnews #cannabisindustry #cannabislounge #nevada

Illinois celebrated the opening of its 100th social equity-owned cannabis dispensary in Champaign! This achievement aligns with a recent state-commissioned study that named Illinois as having the “most diverse cannabis business ownership in the nation.” The ribbon-cutting ceremony not only marked the launch of the new marijuana shop but also showcased Illinois’ ongoing commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the cannabis industry. These initiatives are crucial for transforming a sector traditionally dominated by non-minority groups. “We’re very excited to have been selected and to be part of the Illinois social equity program,” said Jeff Soenksen, owner of The Dispensary Champaign. “We’re grateful to IDFPR for their exceptional service and professionalism during the process.” #cannabis #socialequity #diversity #cannabisnews
