Another fantastic Lamma Lounge AI demo event last night, hosted by Jeremiah Owyang at Canopy in San Francisco. As always, 10 AI startups demo'd products last night to a room full of founders and VCs. If you read my posts on these events, you can see a clear evolution of the type of companies emerging. Early on, we saw a lot of startups focusing on business plans that do content generation for verticals, then purpose-built GPTs, then AI assistants, then infrastructure, then agents. All really cool stuff. But last night I saw a lot of concepts that were more... market mature. Meaning, rather than great technology in search of a problem to solve, these are targeted and meaningful solutions. Some of them mind-blowing. There were a few developer tools that are really timely, like PremAI that will help you set up and host private, secure models (we'll definitely be introducing this to some of our customers); Beluga, which offers a coding platform for non-coders; and BRXai, which offers a secure prompting tool that obfuscates your prompts so they're not readable by humans. There were several very slick marketing tools. Astral is a brand extension tool that can index all your marketing content, and provide a browsing assistant to website visitors that will suggest other content for visitors read, and also show you new content you can create based on user engagement. It's initially targeted at content creators, but I can definitely see big brands using this to better tune their content libraries. BookWatch.com can turn non-fiction books into animated videos for visual learners. Vimmerse has a platform that will turn your photos into videos and animations. That may not sound so unique in the age of generative AI, but it's really cool. You can take a boring, static image, upload it to their platform, and turn it into an engaging animation. You can modify the style, change backgrounds--but more than that, you can apply these modifications to an entire library of images. A brand with a large repository of old lifestyle photos or product shots can leverage them to create entirely new campaigns with a few clicks. They also have a text-to-image prompting function. Lastly, there were some fascinating lifestyle startups. RobinHealth creates personal AI agents in augmented reality so you'll never have to be lonely again. SpaceVibes Inc. is another VR-AI system that helps you create entirely immersive shared experiences with friends--don't just look at pictures from your friend's vacation on Instagram, go along with them on a journey in VR! I can see this platform being used in the future for marketing and sales without a doubt. One company I missed was Lucid, which somehow promises lucid dreaming via AI. I don't know how that would work, but it's definitely intriguing, and along with SpaceVibes shows how experiential AI businesses are emerging.
