Capitol Funding Solutions (CFS) is proud to announce that a proposal written on behalf of Hemlock Semiconductor (HSC) has been awarded $325 million in direct funding through the CHIPS Incentives Program for Commercial Fabrication Facilities. This investment will support the construction of a new manufacturing facility at HSC’s campus in Hemlock, Michigan, dedicated to producing hyper-pure, semiconductor-grade polysilicon. The project is expected to create nearly 180 manufacturing jobs and over 1,000 construction jobs, contributing significantly to the U.S. semiconductor supply chain and enhancing national and economic security. Award Spotlight: CFS is thrilled to announce that Cabot Corporation has been awarded $50 million through the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Battery Materials Processing and Battery Manufacturing and Recycling program to develop a state-of-the-art facility in Wayne County, Michigan. This new facility will manufacture battery-grade carbon nanotubes and conductive additive dispersions at a commercial scale, crucial components for the U.S. lithium-ion battery supply chain. The project will convert a former automotive site and play a significant role in powering electric vehicles and supporting the nation’s electrical grid infrastructure, contributing to energy storage solutions that stabilize the grid. In addition to strengthening domestic supply chains, the project will create hundreds of construction jobs and 85 permanent high-quality positions once operational. Award Spotlight: We’re excited to share that EnerSys Advanced Systems has been awarded $198.6 million through the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Battery Materials Processing and Battery Manufacturing and Recycling program to build a cutting-edge lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing facility in Piedmont, South Carolina. The 500,000-square-foot facility will produce high-performance prismatic and cylindrical cells, supporting key industrial and defense markets. The project will create hundreds of high-wage jobs while bolstering the U.S. battery supply chain. By utilizing domestically sourced materials, this facility will enhance national security and contribute to critical infrastructure, including Direct Current Fast Charging stations, grid stability, and industrial e-mobility.
