As we navigate the path to a lower-carbon future, technological processes, like carbon capture and storage (CCS), are being identified as potential solutions. Analysis by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) shows that deployment of CCS is critical to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. To reach this goal, the United States will need to scale up to more than 1000 capture facilities nationwide, collectively sequestering at least 1 billion tonnes of CO2 per year. CRC’s carbon management business, Carbon TerraVault, is developing CCS and direct air capture plus storage (DAC+S) projects that inject CO2 captured from industrial sources into depleted underground reservoirs and permanently store CO2 deep underground.
