In today's group meeting for the Career Accelerator Toolkit, we discussed simple ways to amp up your #LinkedIn engagement. Here are four strategies: 1) Follow companies and engage with their posts. This is a prime opportunity to be a "big fish in a little pond" and get noticed because company posts often do not gain as much traction as posts from individuals. But someone who works at that company will see your engagement! 2) Use Notifications to prompt your engagement on posts that you might not otherwise see. 3) Scroll your news feed, toggling between "Top" and "Recent" to diversify what you see and can comment on, repost, and like. 4) Direct message people in your network. This is especially useful if you're on a "quiet" job search and don't want to draw attention to your LinkedIn activities. ๐Ÿค“ What are your favorite ways to engage with this platform? ๐Ÿค“

Yesterday evening we had the great opportunity to learn about resume writing and salary negotiation skills from Heidi Scott Giusto, PhD IT WAS GREAT! We learned about ideal resume structure and how a resume is only one part of an effective job campaign. Always ask yourself if your current resume will get you an interview. We also learned that in order to effectively negotiate a salary, regardless of the scenario, always be prepared by establishing a truthful salary range, understanding the salary expectations of your role of interest and the whole compensation package, and last but not least, maintaining a positive attitude โ€“ salary negotiation is a conversation not a confrontation! The whole Women In Bio - RTP chapter would like to thank ALL the participants for their engagement during the event. Great questions, discussion, and feedback was provided. We all have homework to do! Do not hesitate to reach out to Heidi Scott Giusto, PhD if you have questions. See you at the next event taking place on June 27th, 2024 at the Penthouse, Wilmington, NC, where we will hear from our great speaker Kimberly Lupo, MS, MBA on The Leap from Science to Entrepreneurship. • It was such a pleasure joining Ivan Misner last Thursday for a virtual book tour to discuss "The Four Knows" in our book about co-creation, The 3rd Paradigm. So many great questions from guests attending across the globe!

Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the Book launch event of "The Third Paradigm" by Dr Ivan Misner and Dr. Heidi Scott Giusto, PhD.ย  The book introduces the concept of "co-creation," emphasizing that innovation and success often stem from collaborative processes that embrace both structure and messiness. This notion is at the heart of the book's title, suggesting a transformative framework for comprehending business and societal dynamics. Frameworks are invaluable tools for navigating complexity, enhancing comprehension and changing perspectives. They offer models and guidelines that aid in understanding diverse perspectives, tackling challenges, and seizing opportunities. In the realm of business, frameworks empower leaders to make informed decisions, foster team alignment, and drive sustainable growth. How do you foster a culture of co-creation within your organizations, enabling diverse perspectives to flourish and driving innovation forward? • Layoffs are awful. That's the point of this post--and to offer tips as you update your resume and look for your next job.

A friend of mine just got laid off, and I'm heart-broken for her and her family. She is highly skilled and will be okay, but this stinks. My heart aches for everyone affected by the massive layoffs that are going on right now. (And, yeah, I know people love AI, but the fallout feels like it is going to be huge for the workforce.) As we go into the weekend, this is just a note to say that if you're struggling to land your next job, are unfulfilled in your current job, or just want a new challenge, I see you. I'm here for you. I'm actively working on making some of the resources I have reserved just for clients more available to everyone. I'm not there yet, but until then, I still have a an active blog. As my friend (and countless other people) works to update her resume, I'll share my most recent blog here, which is about updating your resume. https://lnkd.in/dJntqqRV Remember, when the going gets tough, the tough get going.

  • As if job seekers didn't already have enough to think about, Sarah Johnston brings up another consideration: your political party affiliation. Bottom-line: in the US, anyone can quickly look up your party affiliation, and you might want to contemplate how that could affect your career options by inviting unintended bias. If you have concerns, consider becoming an Independent or unaffiliated voter. If taking this step feels like it would compromise your values, then, of course, stay registered as you are.

Did you know that in the US, your political party affiliation is public record? In one quick Google search of your name, I can quickly figure out your political party. And then make a whole bunch of assumptions about you as a person. Or... at least that's what petty-minded people do. We forget that politics are complicated. And that people are multi-dimensional. And just because you vote XX doesn't mean you fully endorse every decision that the political party makes. The average person can't make this distinction. It's become a ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐ฅ๐ข๐š๐›๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ to affiliate with a political party. Here's my hot take: It may make sense for some of you to disaffiliate with a political party and register as an independent voter or unaffiliated. If you live in an area that is divided or you are a leader in an organization that serves a diverse population, you may not want people to make assumptions about you based on your party affiliation. Each state has their own set of rules around this. Depending on your stateโ€™s rules, you may only be allowedย to vote for the political party you areย registered with in a presidential primary or caucus. What do you think? Agree? Disagree?
