On October 1, Carrie Wetter, a talent acquisition specialist from Union Pacific, visited Springdale Job Corps to present an upcoming workshop on engineering. She provided valuable insights on job applications, resume building, collecting references, and the importance of saving for retirement. 15 students signed up for the workshop and displayed great enthusiasm throughout the week, eager to learn how to secure positions with the company.
On October 9th students, along with two staff members, attended a career event at the Union Pacific Railroad facility in North Portland. During this event, they heard presentations from U.P. staff about various job opportunities within the railroad, including roles related to locomotives and rail work, with starting salaries ranging from $60,000 to $80,000. The team also shared tips on maximizing interview chances for those interested in applying.
Students had the chance to observe and practice using hand and power tools, as well as welding techniques commonly employed in the field. Seven students have applied for positions, with three already set up for interviews.
