To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, our Familia Employee Resource Group (ERG) and Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) showcased the diverse cultures and backgrounds of our Hispanic and Latinx #DifferenceMakers with a Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. During the event, ERG members educated attendees on the histories, traditional clothing, food and other customs of their countries and cultures. Thank you to our ERG and Office of DEI for organizing a fantastic event and our leadership and board for their support. #CareFirstCares #HispanicHeritageMonth

Early detection of disease can be lifesaving—Zhane is a powerful reminder of that. She is one of our outstanding #DifferenceMakers and breast cancer survivors who is proud to tell her story in hopes it will help others. She was diagnosed at 26. Believing she was too young to be at risk, she initially dismissed a lump she found. As a four-year survivor, she advocates for knowing your body and working with your provider for regular exams and mammograms. Thank you Zhane, for sharing your story and being a proud advocate for awareness and early detection. #CareFirstCares #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

As one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit healthcare companies, CareFirst believes it’s essential for policymakers to protect the ability of companies to offer customized health coverage to meet the needs of their workforces. Our Public Policy team recently hosted a webinar, Leveraging Innovation and Flexibility for a Healthier Workforce, that highlighted employers who offer creative health benefit solutions that help control costs and meet the unique needs of their employees and their families. Hear firsthand from a group that deeply understands employer health benefits and their critical impact on the health and well-being of Americans here: http://spr.ly/6041qTqaS

Health outcomes result from actions and decisions we make in our everyday lives, they’re not exclusive to a provider's office or to physical wellness. Financial security and literacy play a significant role in holistic health, and it’s vital we support opportunities for the community and our #DifferenceMakers to thrive in every aspect of their health. That’s why our Black Professionals Network employee resource group (BPN ERG) hosted a Financial Durability workshop with a special speaker, Brian D. Johnson of The CommonWealth Initiative. During the workshop, attendees learned critical elements of their finances: - SMART Banking - Financial literacy - Budgeting Steps - Employee Wellness - Estate Planning Thank you to our BPN ERG for hosting this event and providing another opportunity for our Difference Makers to improve their holistic health. #CareFirstCares #DEI

Doulas play a vital role in supporting parents through all stages of pregnancy—providing emotional, physical and informational support. Their help can make a significant difference, empowering families to feel heard and cared for in a way that’s right for them. To support our local doulas, we’re holding a Doula Meet & Greet to discuss the world of doula care through Maryland Medicaid. Doulas of all experience levels are encouraged to attend. As a proud, longstanding partner of the DC Chamber of Commerce and community-driven healthcare organization with headquarters in the District, we were excited to join the chamber for their annual State of District & Region Conference. Our Executive Vice President, Ricardo Johnson, joined a panel of healthcare professionals from throughout the area to discuss the health challenges District communities are experiencing and the opportunities for growth. Along with the panel, the event explored the status and future of key priority areas for the District, such as economic development and education. Thank you to everyone who attended the conference and our fellow speakers. While we as a community accomplished much in 2024, we’re looking forward to how we can achieve more for the District in 2025. #CareFirstCares

In preparation for #WorldMentalHealthDay, we joined with the Foundation for the Preservation of Government House of Maryland and Maryland First Lady Dawn Moore to support families, students and caregivers at the “School’s in Session” event. The event brought together community organizations and nonprofit partners such as Safe Kids Worldwide, Port Discovery, Art Farm Studios and Teens with Trauma to discuss how we can effectively support the mental health of youth and those who care for them. Throughout the event, youth and caregivers engaged in wellness activities and heard from mental health professionals and youth advocates to better understand what mental health looks like from childhood to adulthood. We’re looking forward to working with our partners again to help enable better support for Maryland’s youth! #CareFirstCares
