On Friday, August 9th the Newark Workforce Development Board hosted graduating students from Barringer High School’s 311 Program. This program introduces students to a carpentry career through job placement with union contractors. It identifies students who exhibit an interest and aptitude in the trades and offers them a route to develop those skills through a real-world setting and classroom instruction. Congratulations to all of the graduates!

On July 10th, the Mentoring Young Women in Construction (MYWIC) Camp visited the EAS Carpenters Technical Center in NE Philadelphia where attendees built flower boxes that they were able to take with them. The MYWIC Camp introduces young women to local apprenticeship programs to help them learn new skills. All materials for this day were generously provided by D’Andrea Brothers Concrete. This summer safety month, we're highlighting ways to stay hydrated and be #SafeInTheSun. Follow these three tips to make sure you're not faced with dehydration. 1.) Don't wait to Hydrate! - Drink water periodically, not just when you're thirsty. Thirst is the first sign of slight dehydration. 2.) Don't dehydrate! - Coffee, caffeinated beverages, and alcohol are all dehydrating beverages. If water tastes too bland for you, add electrolyte-rich flavoring. 3.) Hydrate while eating! - Add foods to your diet that have a high water content. Fruits and vegetables such as: watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, cucumbers, tomatoes, and leafy greens are full of nutrients and water. Keep your energy up and hydrate while you do it! Know the signs and symptoms of early dehydration to stay safe on site!
