Our mission is to empower children who have experienced abuse and neglect with a volunteer's voice in court.
About us
Since 1985, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) has empowered children who have experienced abuse and neglect with a volunteer's voice in court by seeking a safe and permanent home for each child. The program recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers who act as advocates in court on behalf of child victims of abuse or neglect. As these children enter the court system, they may feel alone, frightened, or unheard. CASA volunteers play a crucial role by monitoring a child's situation and reporting findings to the court. More importantly, they are also a caring and trusting adult presence in a child's life. Each year, CASA volunteers within Johnson and Wyandotte Counties dedicate more than 11,000 hours to children. Every hour focused on the same goal - to give each child a chance at happiness and the stability that all kids need in order to thrive. A majority of the children served by CASA are in the state's custody; and therefore reside in foster homes, relative placement, group homes, or treatment facilities. CASA works to move these children into safe, loving, and permanent homes as quickly as possible.

Check out what #CASAJWC President & CEO, Natalie Julien, has been up to recently! Details below:
📆 For the past twelve months, I've been honored to work with this steering committee for "Connect The Dottes for Positive Childhood Experiences", a partnership between Wyandotte Health Foundation, The Family Conservancy, and Rooted Strategy. 🎊 Last Thursday was our final meeting and celebration of a strategic plan to address childhood trauma in Wyandotte County, KS. The plan emerged from months of rigorous community engagement and data analysis, recognizing that childhood trauma requires comprehensive, community-driven solutions. I can't wait to share the final product with you! 👏🏾 I am so grateful to this committee for their time, expertise, and attention to this important topic. Erica Andrade, Hannah Conner, Megan Cook, Ed.D., Ashley Daniels, LSCSW, LCSW, Linda Gallagher, Vincent Francisco, Rahima Rachel Jefferson, Natalie Julien, Merideth Rose - you are amazing! ❤️ Special shout-out and love to my team: Lindsay Harmon, Shakedra Easterwood, Tracey Wessels - ya'll ROCK!

Yesterday at the #CASAJWC office, our team and advocates participated in an insightful Kinship Training with our friends at KVC Health Systems! Kinship placements, where a child is cared for by a relative or close family friend instead of entering foster care, are vital for many children we serve. These arrangements offer stability and connection, and our advocates are committed to understanding the unique dynamics and needs within kinship placements. Thank you, KVC Health Systems, for sharing your expertise and helping us better support children in these family-centered environments!
