We hosted our Speak Up Speak Out, or, “SUSO” launch this past week at the San Antonio Food Bank. SUSO is a civic education program that provides students with an opportunity to activate their voice and discover the power they have in changing their communities for the better. Students will be equipped with civic skills, knowledge, and dispositions necessary to make a positive difference. A special thanks Sarah Sorensen, Public Policy & External Relations Manager, and Brandi Coleman from The Lemonade Circle for the inspiring speeches to our students. It’s official! The CAST Schools Student Advisory selected “Diving Deeper into YOUth” as the official theme for April’s Youth Rally at the The DoSeum. Students crafted their pitch, explored the DoSeum, and brainstormed ways to bring the theme to life through various experiences. The Youth Rally, created by CAST students for CAST students, is entirely produced by the CAST Schools Student Advisory, representing all seven network schools. It allows students to get hands-on experience organizing a large event—including all the logistics and details that go with it. This process enables students to develop leadership skills and build confidence, preparing them for college, career, and life. More than 400 10th-grade students are expected to attend. Hearing from 6 of the 8 students who got up at 4:45 in the morning to work at Toyota North America all summer at the #CASTSTEM advisory board was incredibly moving - they made comments like: "Toyota is setting us up to get a career" and "this internship helped get a look at real world experience, and "this internship gave me phenomenal insight into how manufacturing works," and finally: "I definitely want to go back to Toyota."
