The Catholic Diocese of Wichita was established on August 2, 1887 from territory taken from the Diocese of Leavenworth, now the Archdiocese of Kansas City, by Pope Leo XIII. The Diocese of Wichita covers 20,021 square miles and includes 25 counties in the central and southeast corner of the state of Kansas. It is home to 115,967 Catholics across 90 parishes. Bishop Carl A. Kemme is the 11th Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wichita. He was appointed on February 20, 2014, by Pope Francis.
