  • Today, we celebrate the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the founder of the Franciscan order. St. Francis bore the stigmata and is known for his ministry to the poor and underprivileged, as well as his care for animals and nature. To celebrate his feast day, we are making the screening of his Pivotal Players episode available to you at no cost. Click here to watch:

I spent the last 3 days helping present a Kolbe prison retreat to 60 brothers in white at the Robertson maximum security prison in Abilene, Texas (residents in the Texas state penitentiaries wear white and all Robertson residents have sentences of 30 years or more). We brought some good books, good music and good food along with the Good News to our brothers. Brothers with a multitude of religious backgrounds were invited to share fellowship and hear more about our Catholic Faith. Maximilian Kolbe - Wikipedia a martyr at Auschwitz provided religious inspiration. Each inmate received Bishop Barron's book on the Eucharist, a copy of the Word on Fire Gospels if they wanted and a miraculous medal of the Blessed Virgin https://lnkd.in/gNb6JzAA. We also had the brothers in white sign leather copies of the Word on Fire Gospels for the Warden, who is very supportive of our ministry, and "Tiny," the mountain of a man guard who hosts us in the gym every retreat with very little disruption while making the necessary counts to safeguard security during our visit. It was especially gratifying to see two of the brothers that sat at my table at the last Robertson retreat volunteer to serve food at this retreat and one of them also gave his conversion testimony. I had the privilege of talking to the brothers about faith, hope and love. I was also blessed to meet a brother who formerly was on death row for committing a crime when he was 17. Due to a Supreme Court ruling, his sentence was commuted to life. It is a blessing as he has used the time to repent and seek forgiveness. At these retreats, we wash our brothers feet emulating the way Christ came to serve. See John Ch 13. One of the brothers at my table did not want me to wash his feet unless he washed mine, so I let him do that in an extra special grace-filled moment. Also, the glass art my table mates are holding in the attached picture was made by one of the talented brothers in white at Robertson.
