About us

CMC is a regional healthcare organization committed to providing high quality and innovative healthcare in a compassionate environment built on its foundation of its Catholic identity and charitable mission of providing health, healing and hope. With roots dating back to 1892, CMC was formed in 1974 as a result of merging Notre Dame and Sacred Heart Hospitals. Today, CMC is a 330-bed not-for-profit full service acute care hospital with 10 primary care practices, 25 subspecialties and a 30-bed and 24-hour emergency department. CMC provides inpatient and outpatient services to almost 110,000 patients per year, making it one of New Hampshire’s largest medical centers. CMC maintains a rigorous application and credentialing process and approximately 400 physicians have privileges at CMC. CMC became one of the first hospitals in New Hampshire to establish a joint venture with independent medical staff members when it became a partner in the freestanding Bedford Ambulatory Surgical Center. What’s new in breast care? “I am delighted to share that this summer, a bill was passed in NH that mandates insurance coverage for additional screenings for women with dense breasts,” shares Jessica Ryan, MD, FACS, Medical Director, CMC Breast Care Center. “This will open access to many women who may need screening beyond 3D mammography, which will help improve cancer detection.” Do you know if you’re dense? At your annual mammogram, starting at age 40, ask questions about the composition of your breasts and whether they are dense. Inquire if you need additional screenings—which will be covered starting in 2025. Unfortunately, NH has one of the highest rates of breast cancer, but we have much lower than average mortality rate. “Women are surviving,” states Dr. Ryan, who credits the screening processes that are available to us. We’re proud to be the only facility in the state to offer contrast-enhanced mammography, another form of supplemental breast imaging that can improve cancer detections.” Listen in to Dr. Ryan’s WZID interview to learn more: https://buff.ly/3YamH7X #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #PinkyPromise

Dr. Eddinger’s interest in biology and the human body started in grammar school. Today, the combination of his experience, knowledge and data helps him guide cardiac patients through their risk factors or progression of heart disease. “I had a great pediatrician, Henry Plantier, who fostered my interest. In addition, as a young phlebotomist at CMC, the staff knew I was interested in medical school, and helped to guide me.” That connection motivated Dr. Eddinger to pursue cardiology and stay in his hometown.
