Our Talking Catholic podcast welcomes Catholic Charities of South Jersey Executive Director Maria Elena Hallion, Ph.D. on to the show this week to chat about taking over the reigns of the social service organization that serves tens of thousands of clients throughout the year. We discuss the work of Catholic Charities, her path to leadership of the organization, her spirituality, and how her years in academia were great training for this new career. Mike Walsh and Maria Elena also highlight the Catholic Charities of South Annual Dinner, their largest fundraising event of the year, and how it highlights both the work of the organization and the great people in South Jersey doing the work. Our Talking Catholic podcast hosts headed down the shore (adjacent) this week to chat with a group of young folks who have helped develop an event every parish should be using!!! The Dream On Youth Festival set for July 19 at Saint Katharine Drexel, EHT is a brilliant youth-focused event that even in its inaugural year is getting a ton of attention - all from the minds of young folks who have planned a fun evening of games, live music, inspirational witness talks, and more to grow the young Church. From securing benefactors and guest speakers to recruiting attendees from area Catholic churches, guests Sarah Wickham, Ashley Gonsalves and Caitlin Harding explain that this “for youth by youth festival” will be an amazing opportunity for young people to meet new friends, talk openly about the faith – and possibly pie some of their mentors, all in good fun! The Dream On Youth Festival is open to young people ages 13 up to college-age. Tickets cost from $10-$15; get yours now by calling Millet LoCosale at 609-798-1277. As you may have heard, Mike Walsh was recently at the Catholic Media Association’s annual conference. While there he took the opportunity to actually meet new people. His efforts were abundantly rewarded and he brought two members of that bounty on our Talking Catholic podcast this week to showcase the incredible talent of the current crop of young Catholic professionals. Joining him this week are 29-year-old Montie Chavez, MBA, Director of Communications for the Archdiocese of Las Vegas, and 25-year-old Moira Greaney, digital content manager for the Catholic Mobilizing Network. The duo discuss their unique paths to the world of professional Catholic communicators and their roles in supporting the work of the Catholic faith. When Philip Britton was asked by a friend to research whether any of her deceased relatives had unclaimed property, he logged on to New Jersey’s unclaimed property database to check. As the Pennsville resident continued to explore the site, he found unclaimed property for schools and parishes in the Diocese of Camden totaling more than $40,000.
