“This is one of those moments where in the worst of times, it can bring out the best in people,” says Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development’s Daniel O'Keefe after touring businesses that suffered extensive flood damage in Seymour with Gov. Ned Lamont and other state and local leaders. A new $5 million state grant program will help small businesses recover and rebuild. “We need to come back stronger and better. But we still need a little help,” says 67 Family Diner owner Mike Abe. #smallbusiness #grantprogram #Connecticut #community #rebuilding #stormdamage

President & CEO of CBIA, Connecticut’s largest business organization. Working with affiliates CONNSTEP and ReadyCT to build a thriving business climate for the benefit of all residents.
Very sobering to tour the Klarides Village shopping plaza in Seymour, where 14 of 16 businesses suffered extensive damage from the devastating August 18 flooding. Kudos to the Lamont administration for the multi-agency effort in all affected parts of the state to repair damage to roads, buildings, and infrastructure, and for yesterday's announcement of a $5 million emergency support fund. Despite the devastation, there's a strong sense of resilience in these communities, as displayed by the sign outside the 67 Family Diner: "We will be back stronger and better than ever!!"

The Women's Business Development Council recently opened the latest round of applications for its Ignite Grant Program. Since 2021, nearly 230 women-owned businesses have received grants between $2,500 and $10,000. “In general, our grants are the first time that a women-owned business has access to capital outside of their own personal investment for the business,” WBDC’s Samantha Cross tells the Hartford Business Journal. #womeninbusiness #cteconomy #grants

After the White House approved a federal emergency declaration for parts of Connecticut in response to the August 18 storm, the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection has new guidance for businesses impacted by the extensive flooding and damage. “As business owners begin to move into the next stages of cleanup we want to continue to offer them as much guidance and support as we are able to,” says commissioner Bryan Cafferelli. #smallbusiness #stormdamage

Many businesses offer employee assistance programs to help workers deal with issues including mental health, substance abuse, and financial challenges. As Whittlesey notes, it’s important for companies to keep compliance in mind if they’re considering an EAP or already offer one. #employeebenefits #employeeassistance #employmentlaw #compliance

Preparing for an Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspection or dealing with a citation can be intimidating for businesses. But as Berchem Moses PC’s Christopher R. Henderson notes, being proactive and preparing for inspections “not only minimizes risks and penalties but also fosters a culture of safety and trust within your organization.” #employmentlaw #safety
