Marylanders, You are invited to register and participate in the Smart Salting: Enhanced Winter Maintenance Training Course The use of winter salts has increased over the past decade during winter weather for safer roadways, parking lots, and sidewalks. However, excessive salt application can damage infrastructure, pollute waterways in our environment, and pose threats to human health. This training program aims to provide a voluntary, statewide winter salt certification for private applicators that balances safety during winter weather months while minimizing salt application, improving application methods and your bottom line, and reducing contamination in the environment. The target audience includes property managers, business owners, landscaping companies, and private contractors/salt applicators interested in learning effective ice melting strategies that protect the environment while also maintaining profitability and meeting customer safety expectations. This course was developed in partnership with Maryland Department of the Environment and University of Maryland Environmental Finance Center and CCLC. CBLP's own Jason Swope leads this training series. CBLP CEUs are available. This hybrid (virtual and in-person) training series will run from October 2024 - December 2024. The series includes 4 hours of independent online instruction, 2 hours of facilitated discussion forums, and 1 in-person session. The virtual informational session for this training course is September 30th. If you are unable to attend the informational session but want to participate in the training program, email nsanchez@umd.edu Pre-registration for the informational session is required. .
