About us
The Center for a Healthy Maryland (formerly MedChi Foundation) is an affiliate of MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society. It was established in 1976 as a 501(c)(3) corporation to support the charitable, educational and scientific purposes and functions of MedChi. These include education, quality improvement, health promotion, community outreach, preservation of MedChi history, and public health. A subsequent reorganization occurred in July 2004 which consolidated the administration of all public health and physician-quality programs under the Foundation. In 2019, the Center for a Healthy Maryland, an affiliate of MedChi, was relaunch with new logo as the Center for a Healthy Maryland, The Maryland State Medical Society Foundation, to better reflect its vision, mission and activities. Primary Activities The Center supports the study of medicine and diffusion of medical knowledge though the continuing medical education of physicians provides programs to maintain the wellness of practicing physicians serving the public, preserves and learns from the past history of medical care in Maryland, educates the public about medical issues and promotes public health programs.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. Did you know that female physicians have a 76% higher risk of suicide than females in other professions? 10% of all doctors have had suicidal ideations. On average, 1 doctor per day ends their own life. In medicine, we are trained to be perfect and not to show signs of “weakness.” Let’s stop the stigma and change the narrative. Admitting you need help is not a sign of weakness, rather a sign of strength. If you or someone you know needs help, please reach out. Call or text 988 or visit 988lifeline.org for 24/7 help. You are important. 💜 #suicidepreventionday
