The Coalition has supported various hospital-based intervention programs, including the Center for Hope Abuse and Assault Response Team (CHAART), Carroll Hospital Center's new survivor advocacy initiative. CHAART will complement existing LifeBridge Health/Center for Hope violence response programs at Sinai Hospital, Northwest Hospital, Grace Medical Center, and the Carroll SAFE Program. Colleen Moore, CHAART Manager and current Coalition President, is developing a responsive and compassionate approach for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, elder abuse, and community violence. In a report released from the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy just last month, 12.2% of Maryland victims reported that the hospital, and 16% reported that a doctor or a therapist was the first point-of-contact for survivors seeking help. These reports to health care professionals are second only to reports to law enforcement. By being prepared for disclosures of abuse, health care providers have the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of intimate partner violence victims. Go to our website at www.healthanddv.org to learn how to respond proactively to abuse and view the full report from the Governor's Office here: https://lnkd.in/exgdE7xe
