  • On November 14, the Center for Cybercrime Studies at John Jay College of Criminal Justice is offering a training on their Internet of Things database and how law enforcement can obtain access for investigative purposes. This training will focus on the Center for Cybercrime Studies Consumer IoT Device Database. Participants will learn how to access the database through the National White Collar Crime Center, what information is held within the database, and how this information can be of use in the context of criminal investigations. The goal of this presentation and project is to help law enforcement understand what evidence may be contained within IoT devices, how to access that evidence and use it in criminal investigations. • Justin Chau is this week’s Team Spotlight at the Center for Cybercrime Studies. Justin, a Graduate Student Researcher, uses his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Information Security to support his work at the Center, as well as the knowledge he gains as a student in John Jay’s master’s program in Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity. Justin’s research interests span digital forensics and cybersecurity, and in 2024 he hopes to learn more cybersecurity tools and earn his Security+ certification. He is the proudest of his worth ethic, and his best joke is “Why did the data refuse to play hide-and-seek? Because it couldn’t get lost!”
