We were delighted to welcome USDA Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small, USDA Undersecretary Jenny Lester-Moffitt earlier this week to our headquarters in Woodland. CLBL was selected as the Northen California location for their listening sessions with young farmers. Two dozen young farmers from our region gathered around the table with them and California Department of Food and Agriculture Secretary Karen Ross and CLBL CEO Mary Kimball to learn about available resources and share their experiences. Young farmers shared their experiences and struggles with topics like land access, financing, housing for farm workers, and market and regulatory pressures. We hope to hold more listening sessions like this. Please comment with your ideas for topics that should be addressed.

We're honored that our CEO Mary Kimball was named one of Five Sacramento Solvers in the The Sacramento Observer. Mary has grown CLBL since its modest beginning. “If you stay a long time, you get the opportunity to solve bigger and bigger problems,” she says. These days, she’s working on big policy issues such as climate change, land access for beginning farmers and supplying food to low-income, immigrant and senior communities. Kimball knows just about everybody in the agricultural sphere and is a connector of people. And she just plain knows a lot of things about a lot of things. “We certainly don’t have all the answers,” says Kimball. “But there’s always something to work on, some problem to fix.” Check out the full article and read about all 5 Solvers! https://lnkd.in/gkcbS_-x)
