Four Stanford students describe a recent action lab in three words. 🎥 ⤵️ During winter and spring quarters, student groups researched opportunities to incorporate fisheries and aquaculture, or blue foods, into Indonesia’s national development strategy. As the world's largest archipelagic country with the most marine biodiversity on the planet, Indonesia depends on ocean and inland waters to support its food security and economy, as well as the livelihoods of Indonesians. The Stanford Center for Ocean Solutions led the teaching and development of the interdisciplinary course, which was offered through the Stanford Law School and the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. The Human and Planetary Health Initiative, co-hosted by the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment and the Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health, and the Law School's Law and Policy Lab provided additional support. Are you an early career scholar interested in seafood, climate resilience, and finance? Check out a new postdoc position based at the Stockholm Resilience Centre! This role will support a three-year project led by the Stockholm Resilience Centre in partnership with the Stanford Center for Ocean Solutions and the Malin Pinsky Lab at the University of California, Santa Cruz. The purpose of the project is to better understand the financial risk to seafood businesses from climate impacts on marine fish populations. A new postdoctoral fellow based in Stockholm will lead the financial risk component of the project. I am grateful to conclude my time with the World Economic Forum's Blue Carbon Action Partnership by sharing this agenda blog. André Hoffmann Fellow Josheena Naggea, Ph.D. and colleagues share how coastal wetlands, known as blue carbon ecosystems for their ability to sequester carbon, can support both climate mitigation efforts and the needs of local communities. "Such a holistic perspective will ensure blue carbon ecosystems are valued, not just for their carbon sequestration potential, but for their broader contributions to environmental resilience and community well-being," the co-authors write.
