I describe Lucy as the successor to A. Philip Randolph as the facilitator for civil rights and pointed to the override of the 1984 Reagan veto of the anti-apartheid bill by a Republican majority Senate as the template for today's movements. I also described my leadership of the 2017 movement to restore federal library funding.

November 5 is an opportunity to finish the task that Gen. Oliver Otis Howard was tasked with when Congress approved the legislation creating the Freedman's Bureau on March 3, 1865. All HBCUs can share in this homecoming which marks the role of these institutions as the most important economic and educational mechanism for our people.
