Last week, the Capitol Hunger Garden closed out it's 14th season. The Capitol Hunger Garden has had a continued impact on the Harrisburg community, providing thousands of pounds of produce to those in need. During the 2024 season, Penn State Master Gardeners and volunteers harvested over 727 pounds of vegetables and herbs. As our CEO, Joe Arthur stated yesterday, "Fresh produce is vital to improving the health of our neighbors, and we look forward to working with the General Assembly to ensure that all Pennsylvanian's have access to nutritious foods.” #centralpafb #foodbank #nonprofit

About us
The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank has been dedicated to ending hunger for more than 30 years. The Food Bank started as a one-day demonstration project on World Food Day in 1981, and to address the needs of hungry families, began permanent operation on October 16, 1982. Originally, the Food Bank was located in a converted movie theater in Steelton. The Food Bank initiated a capital campaign, raising 1.5 million dollars directed to the construction of a brand new warehouse. Then, in 1994, the Food Bank relocated to its current facility in Harrisburg. Mission: Fighting hunger, improving lives, strengthening communities. At the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, we live our mission every day. It is our passion. We truly believe no one should be hungry and we are committed to working harder every day to make that belief a reality. We trust that the healthy food we distribute is an investment in our community, providing hope for families who are trying to build a brighter future and otherwise would lack fuel to succeed. What We Do: Serving 27 counties, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is the largest nonprofit food distribution organization in central PA. The Food Bank solicits, inventories and distributes food and other donated products to more than 1000 partner agencies (food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, etc.) directly serving our neighbors in need. The Food Bank distributed more than 50 million nutritious meals through our partner networks over the past year. The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is part of the Feeding America and Feeding Pennsylvania network of food banks.

Last week, our team members, Kelly and Maddy attended the Lower Paxton Fall Fest at Colonial Park on behalf of the Food Bank with a special appearance by our mascot, Crunch. There were food trucks, hay rides, and over 700 free pumpkins were handed out for children to decorate. We are beyond grateful to be out in the community participating in events to raise awareness about food insecurity and how the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank can help! #foodbank #centralpafb #nonprofit
