🌍 Exciting Collaboration Announcement! 🤝 We are thrilled to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the Centre for Human Rights and Sustainable Development, INES-Ruhengeri, Rwanda, and the Research Institute for Geopolitical Analyses at Democritus University of Thrace - (D.U.Th.). This partnership aims to foster collaborative actions, including: Staff and student exchanges (undergraduate and postgraduate) Joint research programs and projects Conferences and workshops (both in-person and online) Support for intercultural relations and professional development for students Both institutions are committed to ensuring non-discrimination, respecting intellectual property rights, and maintaining confidentiality throughout our collaboration. We aim to enhance educational experiences and broaden horizons for our students and staff alike. The memorandum will be effective for five years and lays a strong foundation for future initiatives, including organizing conferences every three years alternating between Rwanda and Greece. 🌟 Introducing Jean Marie Vianney Sikubwabo as the Head of the Advocacy and Community Outreach Unit and a member of the Research Unit at the Centre for Human Rights and Sustainable Development, INES-Ruhengeri 🌟 Jean Marie is a lecturer of legal courses at INES-Ruhengeri since 2021 and an accredited professional #mediator recognized by the Rwandan Supreme Court. As a member of the World Mediation Organization (WMO), he brings valuable expertise in #mediation and #conflict resolution. Before joining INES-Ruhengeri, Jean Marie played a pivotal role in implementing transformative educational systems at the Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village (ASYV), where he also provided legal advisory services to ASYV and private companies. Currently pursuing a doctorate in mediation and conflict resolution at EUCLID (Euclid University), he actively contributes to discussions on #peace and #security through his authored blog journals. Her impressive academic background and numerous professional accolades, including being a 2022 Finalist for the Pro Human Rights Prize (Madrid) and 2020 North-South Prize of the Council of Europe recipient, exemplify her dedication to advancing human rights globally. She has served as a Visiting Professor in institutions across the world, including Mexico, Turkey, and China, and continues to actively contribute as a board member and advisor to prestigious institutions in India, Morocco, Argentina, and many others. In her multifaceted role as both a scholar and practitioner, she has worked on international human rights standards implementation projects with the Council of Europe in Armenia, Turkey, and Moldova, and has held key roles such as Vice-Director at the International Council for Diplomacy and Dialogue (France). 🌍 Introducing Dr. Victor Tsilonis – CHRIS Advisory Board Member 🌍 We are honored to welcome Dr. Victor Tsilonis to the Advisory Board of The Centre for Human Rights and Sustainable Development, INES-Ruhengeri #CHRIS. A highly distinguished figure in international law, Dr. Tsilonis brings decades of experience and expertise to CHRIS, where he will contribute as one of the leading human rights experts from the broader international community. Dr. Tsilonis is a Supreme Court lawyer, managing partner at NewLaw law firm, and a member of the Hellenic Criminal Bar Association. His profound knowledge in international law includes serving as Greece’s nominee for the 2020 ICC judicial elections and his significant contributions to the International Criminal Court (ICC). Notably, he has been twice elected as vice-president of the ICC Bar Association (2019-2020, 2021-2022) and is currently chairing the Professional Standards Advisory Committee (2023-2024). A renowned academic and author, his book, The Jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (Springer, 2nd ed., 2024), stands as a comprehensive guide to modern legal challenges such as ecocide, cyber warfare, and AI. With a Ph.D. in Public Law, alongside Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Law and Political Science from the University Of Dschang, Cameroon , Dr. Nfor brings a wealth of expertise to our team. Dr. Nfor is the Head of the Law Department at INES-Ruhengeri in Rwanda, where he lectures and supervises both undergraduate and postgraduate students. His research and teaching focus on Human Rights, International Humanitarian Law, International Criminal Law, and Transitional Justice. He has authored numerous scientific publications and has presented his work at highly regarded international conferences. As a dedicated human rights advocate, Dr. Nfor also contributes to various organizations working to promote and protect human rights, including the investigation of wartime atrocities. As one of five external members representing the African human rights community and beyond, Barrister Nkongho brings unparalleled expertise and commitment to our mission of advancing human rights and sustainability. Founder and president of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa (CHRDA), Barrister Nkongho’s illustrious career spans roles as: Legal Officer at the Sierra Leone International Criminal Court Human Rights Officer at the UN in Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, and DRC Lecturer on human rights law at the University of Buea He has addressed major platforms like the US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, UN Human Rights Council, Pan-African Parliament, and more.
