About us
Over fifty years ago, Centro La Familia Advocacy Services was born out of a desire to help the most vulnerable in our community. It was started by a group of vibrant, pioneering students from Fresno City College's Chicano Studies class, who began to help families by explaining processes, filling out complex government forms, and providing translation services in a volunteer operation outside the public benefits office. This volunteer project was later incorporated into a nonprofit organization, and the County of Fresno, seeing the benefits of the service, became its first funder. These were our humble beginnings. Over the past five decades, we have become an important beacon for families that provides a multitude of social services and educational programs in rural and urban areas of Fresno County. Our programs are provided through four Neighborhood Resource Centers located in West Fresno, Central Fresno, Highway City, and Kerman, as well as two satellite offices in Mendota and Parlier. Annually, we serve more than 15,000 families with direct services and reach more than 150,000 community members through outreach education and media interviews.

👏 Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for Centro La Familia's 9th Annual Community Convening event! We used this opportunity to share about the services our Victim Advocates provide through our Victim Assistance Program and to connect with local partners on how to better support and empower survivors of sexual violence in our community in a culturally responsive manner. 🤝 It was thanks to many individuals and organizations that this event was a success. To highlight a few, we'd like to extend our appreciation for: our keynote speaker, Mirna Garcia from the RAINN Speakers Bureau; our emcee and board member, Dr. Raquel Haro; panelists from James Rowland Crime Victim Assistance Center, RCS Fresno, Fresno County District Attorney's Office, Family Violence Appellate Project, and Fresno Police Department; Consul of Protection and Affairs Patricia Valeria Solorio Sepúlveda from Consulate of Mexico in Fresno; Deputy Director Linda Du'Chene from the Department of Social Services; Integral Community Solutions Institute; and Café EOC Catering. Thank you all! #sexualassaultawareness #communityconvening #fresnocounty #centralvalley #fresno

👏 Have you heard about Executive Director Margarita Rocha's latest accomplishment? In recognition of her 40+ years of social service experience, Congressman Jim Costa awarded Margarita with the Lois Haight Award of Excellence and Innovation as part of the Congressional Crime Survivors and Justice Caucus last week. Here's what Margarita had to say about the honor: 🗨️ "Growing up in a monolingual Spanish speaking family who was often fearful of seeking help, I was determined to create a space where all could feel safe and heard. With a dedicated team at Centro La Familia, we strive daily to empower survivors, particularly those from underserved communities, from a culturally sensitive lens. We are guided by the principle: ‘we are who we serve,’ advocating for those silenced by fear and unawareness of their rights. I am deeply honored by this recognition from Congressman Costa." ➡️ Read more on our website at https://lnkd.in/g8FZzZVt.

💙 Thank you to everyone who made our 2nd Annual Family Strengthening Parent Conference a success! We were grateful to host the event at the Parc Grove Commons Clubhouse with the support of our partners Resiliency Center of Fresno, Fresno County Superintendent of Schools, Fresno Council on Child Abuse Prevention (FCCAP), Calviva Health and many more organizations and community members throughout Fresno County. 👨👩👧👦 We host this event yearly in April during Child Abuse Prevention Month to help raise awareness about how we can work together to nurture our families and provide a happy, healthy home for our children. Thank you to all the parents and caregivers who joined us in recognizing the importance of this event, and we hope to see you all next year in April 2025 for the 3rd Annual Parent Conference!

It's rare when nonprofit teams from around the Valley are able to gather like this. But Kotman Technology helped make that possible yesterday. We were honored to spend lunch with leaders from Centro La Familia Advocacy Services, from left to right, Executive Director Margarita Rocha, Valerie Tinoco, and Mario A Gonzalez, JD and our friends from Exceptional Parents Unlimited, Inc. Amanda Tripp and Suzanne Ellis. We learned a lot about how other nonprofits are navigating fundraising and board development challenges. It was a terrific experience and we look forward to continued and future collaboration opportunities like this! #networking #nonprofits #centrolafamilia #epu #escc #celebratingabilities #autismawareness #fresnoca
