Today, we honor British-American jazz vocalist Annie Ross, born on July 25th,1930. She is known as a pioneer of the vocalses style of singing. Most notably she performed in the group Lambert, Hendricks & Ross. Ross received the honor of being named a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts in 2010. We are pleased to announce that Demetrius Doctor is the new Director of the Charleston Jazz Academy. Demetrius is a familiar face to our Charleston Jazz family. He has been a guest with the Charleston Jazz Orchestra and he leads our Momentum band. Demetrius brings a wealth of musical training and performance experience to this role and we are delighted to have him on the team. As many of you know, our current Charleston Jazz Academy Director Basil Kerr is retiring. Basil has led the Academy through a tremendous season of growth as our Jazz Combo Camps and our community outreach programming have expanded, furthering our mission. We are so thankful for his leadership and dedication to our students. Basil is a big supporter of Demetrius Doctor and is thrilled to see him take on this new role.
