Guides that are intended to help consumers reduce exposures to potentially toxic pesticides may incorporate some hazard assessment principles but do not always reflect a more comprehensive dietary risk assessment. One notable example is the Environmental Working Group’s “Dirty Dozen” list of 12 popular fruits and vegetables reported to have the greatest pesticide contamination. In a recently published paper, our scientists applied standard risk assessment techniques to this list using a uniform screening-level approach.
